No that was me misreading, I thought it was £125 per month for dashcam which seemed expensive. If it's other stuff too then it's more understandable!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Thank you for info, about pairing dogs. I might look into this if/when my dog walking duties come to an end. My elderly neighbour’s very old Labrador is such a sweetie and so docile. She can’t walk very far now and my neighbour now walks with two sticks since she had a botched hip operation, so a quick walk around the block is all she needs/wants. She is quite mischievous though. She recently found a nearly full packet of porridge oats on the kitchen table, knocked it to the floor and ate it all! My neighbour said labradors have a reputation for being greedy dogs! After a visit to the vet, they confirmed there was no damage, thankfully, although I think she may have made herself sick! My elderly aunt and uncle shouldn’t have been paired with a young, boisterous dog, when they couldn’t really look after her. She wasn’t a pup - maybe a teenager in doggie years? I feel the re-homing Centre should have done some more background checks as she clearly wasn’t suitable for them. My poor aunt couldn’t walk her as she pulled constantly on the lead and nearly toppled her over, and when my uncle became ill I used to walk her at lunchtimes and weekends. My friend loves sharing “custody” of her dog and the dog loves it and has the best of both worlds. My other friend has a similar set up with her elderly parents who live nearby. Although she is retired, she goes on a lot of holidays, so the dog lives mostly with her parents and gets walked regularly by my friend and goes on hollibobs to her house most weekends. She is a bichon frise (I think that’s how you spell it) and is ideal, as I’m sure know, they require a lot of grooming, but don’t shed their fur the same as other dogs, so is ideal for her dad, who has allergies. I understand they need a lot of company too and are good with children, which is good as they have great grandkids. I only ever had a dog when I lived with my parents for my father’s work in Hong Kong. It was a Chow. Beautiful dog, but I think a Chinese delicacy at the time? So we had to keep an eye open for him all the time, in case he was dognapped and eaten! Luckily, he lived to a grand age (he was re-homed to us when his previous family went back to the UK, so was a good age when we had him).
You’re doing really with your weight loss — keep up the good work! I wish I was, but then again, I’m not really trying. I must do better!!!1 -
Borrow my doggy is the name of the organisation that pairs dogs with volunteer walkers. I think the cinnamon trust also us dog walker to help people who cannot walk their dogs and if you live near a rescue centre that kennels they are often looking for help. Some Labradors have a gene that makes them constantly hungry which is why owners need to be really careful with their feeding or they become overweight and they will steal food given half a chance.Chows are lovely although our first Collie didnt think so as he took great exception to one not long after we had him. Yes they were regarded as a great delicacy in southern China which extended into Hong Kong although the slaughter and sale was made illegal in 1950 in Hong Kong.1

The dash cam was under a hundred pounds. On to today. I have washed down and polished the shelf above the computer which I rarely do as it filled with Mr LHs junk. Also the desk on which the computer sits, and the outside of the two dispay cabinets. With Mr LH smoking they do get rather disgusting so it needs doing from time to time and I end up with ayellow cloth and water.
Sorry too much information.
WE had a hail storm first thing this morning and I was very glad I was a few minutes late getting up or Bear and I would have been caught in it. As it was we just got wet. I took him at lunchtime as Mr LH was waiting for his dash cam to be delivered just at dog walking time. He (Bear) was as good as gold though was keeping a very close eye on two dogs that were on the very soggy green playing ball. We had been playing ball in the garden but had to stop as he was skidding on the paving and I was worried about him skinning his pads so we had a sniffari. No money spent today - hooray but need to get a bit of shopping in the morning.Meals: Breakfast - oats and fruit, lunch - Houmas salad and b&b, dinner - pork chops, butternut squash, peas and broccli. No grapes today as we had run out but did have a banana and 2 spoons of yoghurt.

My heart smiles every time you write 'sniffari'3

Yes, my neighbour did mention the gene about labradors and I think the dog may have it, as she does, on occasion, try to steal food. My neighbour is very careful about her diet and is aware the dog tries on occasion to steal food, so she is usually very careful. However, on this one occasion, she inadvertently left the oats out and when she returned to the kitchen a while later, she had eaten the lot, so she’s learnt her lesson. The dog is a bit overweight now, so she is very careful with her diet; but I think that due to her age and lack of exercise that this is a contributing factor.
I didn’t know that it became illegal to slaughter chows in 1950 and I didn’t actually know that it was a great delicacy in certain parts of China, I thought it was a fallacy that we had been told! We were in HK in the early 60s so it would have been highly unlikely that the dog would have been dognapped! He was lovely though, just like a teddy bear and was actually called Teddy.
I hope Mr LH enjoys his dash cam; it will give him something to play with and keep him quiet! I need to get to grips with a bit of cleaning as I’ve let it slide. I honestly did more cleaning when I worked full-time so I’ve become a bit lazy since I retired. I do the basics but haven’t done a deeper more thorough clean in ages. I noticed when I was bringing in the shopping yesterday that the hall carpet is looking particularly grubby so could do with a good clean. It’s only a very small hall, taken up largely by a huge Chinese camphor wood chest that my parents brought back from HK and that I was given when my mum went into a sheltered accommodation flat and didn’t have room for it. It’s full of all sorts, so I am going to have to empty it to move it to clean the hall. Oh dear, I almost feel exhausted now, writing this! Maybe that’s a job another day, but the hall carpet DOES need doing. I do have a carpet cleaning machine but it’s such a faff to get out, so I usually just get down on my hands and knees, so that’s another reason I think I’ll postpone the job!2 -
FreetodoasIlike I do know the Chinese mentality a little and suspect that you were wise to take great care of your Chow as if they didnt like a law they ignored it. I suspect it is different now. My dh was in China visiting a friend for spring festival (Chinese new year) a few years ago and although fireworks were banned his friends tiny elderly mother was happily letting them off from the balcony as were many others. I would add these were more like commercial ones in this country not the ones we buy over the counter.1

Evening all. Out to post a parcel as I had an unexpected sale last night so another tiny amount in the present pot. Utility bill arrived and surprisingly we still have a very small amount of credit and thats without havent touched the emergency pot that I built up last year. Good news prices are falling in April but pretty disgusted that standing charges are rising. This will affect the poorest most as they are the ones that often use least electricity and gas. Various bits of fruit and veg bought at Mr S while I was out. I also walked to the pet shop and bought Bear a new brush. The old one was not good for his fur and I have been meaning to get one for ages. He loves it and keep nudging it for me to brush him. He even let me do his tail and rear end although not especially happy about it.I have also carried on with washing furniture down and polishing it. Not much done but making slow progress. Some money shuffled to the household saving account so thats done for now. No surveys today. They are dire at the moment between paltry payments offered and being thrown out of them.Bear had his ball game today as although it rained when I was out it had partially dried by lunchtime. He was interested in playing for long but it gives him some exercise. Until the weather dries up going to the field is not possible as it is a quagmire there. Our field still has flooded areas but Mr LH takes him on there on his lead .Meals today Breakfast - oats and fruit, lunch - baked beans and b & b, dinner- gammon, boiled potatoes, runner beans, carrots, sweet potato and peas. Snacks lots of grapes and a banana.Have a peaceful evening.4

I genuinely love it and have never come across the term before, it is so joyful
I also love your version of 'not much done', I don't think I have washed down and polished a single piece of furniture in my life!
Great news on the sale, credit, and brush. Agree with you about the standing charges going up. Serfdom has never left this country has it.2
