Money Moral Dilemma: Should I ask the bride-to-be for my money back?

  • What a cheek, why should you have to pay £150 for a hen do in her garden. I cannot understand why anyone would expect their guests to pay for their hen do unless you were all going away together and had hotel expenses etc. It seems to be an expensive fad these days, why can't a night out with friends be enough. I would definitely ask for my money to be returned and if you want to offer £20 or £30 towards drinks and food that is up to you, but if you don't get the rest back I would consider what kind of friend she is, and like others have said there would be no wedding present. It makes you wonder if she changed her mind about the weekend away because she could not afford it herself because she has overspent on the wedding, but that is not your problem, hope she is decent enough to return your money.

I would be quite straight and open with the bride to be and say that, while you understood the expense involved with the original hen do, and was willing to pay for it, this do shouldn't be as expensive. Consequently, you feel it is unfair to expect you to pay such a high cost for a garden one instead and ask for maybe £100 back. Adding in information on how it was not easy for you to raise the £150 for the original do in the first place.

I really find these posts interesting - but also very frustrating because you never find out what the questioner actually did! I

would really like to know the end story of this, what you decided to say and what the B2B had planned! Yes, everyone, I'm obviously nosey so you don't need to tell me but I am really curious!

As stated earlier, there could be a delay in getting money back if deposits had been paid. If there were non-refundable deposits and the bride changed the plans then they need to 'cough-up' to cover the lost money.
Usually it's not the bride who organises these things, I'd be very concerned if it was, as you appear to have a MegaBridzilla on your hands.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
