Xmas eve we usually get fish and chips or chinese. Thinking of going to Iceland this year though as their party food looks lovely and is pretty reasonably priced. May do a buffet of nibbles.
  • Lazy but worth it, I always order takeaway from the same chippy. Same meal come to think of it too. Cant go wrong with Special Fried Rice

We don't do anything special. Last year we had an indian takeaway.

We dont do anything special - we are always somewhere different or some of us may be working (work in emergency services/NHS).

This year, though, we are all together so think I may make Cola Ham - keep hearing people say how yummy it is so will prob give it a try!!! :)

  • It's interesting how many people do takeaways on Christmas eve!

We usually make a platter, cook up chicken legs, chicken strips, sausages with bacon, battered prawns, mini samosas and spring rolls, canapes, have a sliced meat selection and potato salad/coleslaw, brown bread rolls and any other bits we fancy to pick at. We also get mini desserts like mini victoria sponges/eclairs etc for the evening to. We cook this up in the morning and then it's there (covered of course) to eat during the day, we just grabe a plate when we fancy it in between the wrapping or films etc. It's perfect as we don't want to slave over a meal when we want to enjoy ourselves.

Best get on and write the christmas food shopping list... :)

  • We have my mum, sister and niece over, so as well as lots of nibbles during the afternoon we usually have a hot buffet early evening. Over the last few years we have had:
    Various Pizzas, Garlic Bread, Salad
    Chicken Fajitas.
    Lasagne, Bread, Salad
    Pasta Bolognaise, Bread, Salad
    Curry, Rice, Poppadoms
    Jacket Pots and different fillings.

Not sure this year - but the ham egg and chips suggested earlier is tempting, although with a buffet people can have a s much / little as they like.

We usually have a vienetta or frozen type dessert to finish off - easy for me and able to keep if not used up.

We are usually really tired so have something easy. This year we are going to get the large pizza that comes on the tray from Costco and put it on the table in the lounge with lots of nibbles around it.Can't be doing with cooking on Christmas eve, will be cooking for 10 the next day!.
  • Kentucky Fried Chicken on route home from ice skating in George Square, Central Glasgow.

Started off just myself, OH and 2 DD's; last year my sister and her family joined us and thinking probably my brother may join us this year so seems to be becoming an 'extra' family gathering.
If only I could stop finding good bargains on this site, I would save a fortune! :rotfl:
