  • We have been offered the same deal as original poster. Fixed until June 2023. We worked out even tho we will be 1 month at higher than price cap overall not taking into account cap rise in October we will break even so if it goes up by 24% like they predicting we will be better off. Also the standing charge was half the price cap I think.

Just on the part in bold, bear in mind that if you instigate a switch today it will take time to complete the switch, so it will be much less than a month you'd be paying the new rate prior to 1 April.
  • So I've spoken to a lovely lady in the Complaints Dept at Scottish Power, took a bit of explaining but she understood what I was getting at regarding the Exclusive Fixed Tariff 2023 B1 I wanted previously (unavailable as at 1/3/22). Offers on the "Tariff Information Label" are not available to everyone, we can only get what is offered, i.e. "change your tariff" button and these are your only offers available. Mine are coming up at £477 a month, I know prices are rising steeply but even so that is over 3 times what I pay now.  I'm sticking with my Standard tariff, no other option, also a bit worrying was that she said if you are on a Fixed Rate which is ending, customers are not able to go back on to the Standard Tariff.  Hopefully though they will be offered the more reasonable Exclusive Fixed Rate Tariff offer, touch wood, and maybe this is the criteria, that you have to be on a Fixed rate at present.

If you are simply switching tariffs with the same provider the switch is pretty much instant (they can be efficient when it suits them!)

I think she has maybe spilt coffee on her script (or at it!) as that isn't the case. You don't need to take a fix, you can default onto the price cap (Standard tariff).

Likewise i'm sure the change to the direct debit amount will be pretty much instant too!

It took them two days to change me over and that's at a weekend. I submitted meter readings yesterday and my £350 surplus went straight down to £39. The PDF wasn't ready when I looked to see when the tarriff exactly changed.

Edit: Oops! I'd missed we were talking about swapping tariffs with the same provider. Yes, that will be faster!

Well that is what she said, maybe not the case at the moment I'm not sure but maybe soon. Strange thing to say if not true but who knows because the world has gone mad

They don't want you on their standard tariff as that is subject to the price cap, whereas fixed rates aren't hence the massive increases on those. That's my thoughts on it anyway.
