Scottish Power - Exclusive Fixed June 2023 B1

  • Done!

After reading through more previous posts I found on here & rechecking all my calcs (again & again!) I've just taken the plunge. I didn't have the bottle to sit it out & hope the 'Exclusive' tariff was still there in a weeks time. My folks are going to do the same.

I reckon I'll claw back the extra I'll pay over the next ~month (which would've mostly been on the current cap) and more over the following 10-11 months on the 'Exclusive' fix versus the new April cap, and we'll also have some protection from the predicted further rise in Oct'22.

Still scary numbers & I now really need to turn my attention to looking at where we can start to reduce our consumption! It just seems to have crept up year on year.

Good luck all & thanks again.
  • I'm in exactly the same boat, bar a different region.

I went on twitter and SP assured me the tariff would be available at the end of the month so intend to push the button next week.
It's hard to wrap my head around that a 99% rise is a good option to take.
  • Good luck saintscouple...you're a bit braver than me and agree re the 99%

Yeah, there was big difference (cheaper) for this ‘exclusive’ 16 month deal. The 1 year & 2 year deals were similar costs to each other but we’re about 20% more than the 16 month one. I’ll double check that % figure when I’m back on later.
I guess that's because the 16 month deal only covers one winter, whilst the 24 month one covers two winters.
    #2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £366
  • Yeah I guess that's a factor JGB1955. I just couldn't get my head around paying even more right now & for the next 2 years...only time will tell if that part of my gamble pays off! (note, the % difference was actually 36 & not the 20 I initially suggested!)
  • Hi
I received an email from SP yesterday.  My current online expires 31st May and they've offered one to cover until June 2023 but saying i will move immediately.  It's a chance of paying an extra £100 per month if I take it up now or risk it not being available as they've said it's subject to availability.  I feel they're using a fear tactic to get extra money for the next 3 months.  It will save me from June but should I wait and see or take the chance and sign up now???

Anyone else received an email saying limited availability and did you lose lose out, or was it still available a few weeks later?

    It's a gamble...

    Thanks in advance
  • Yeah leigho, I suspect you are right - with the fear factor. I was switching within just over a week to go on my fix, so had less of a saving to lose (I still lose a month on the lower cap up to 31st March) but I offset that with the 'saving' I can potentially make.

No right answers! I think I was offered an earlier fix on a lower rate, but I would have lost more by going earlier. TBH I had buried my head in the sand up to a point & just said to myself I was sitting it out as long as I sensibly could. I think I did not too bad in the end.

As you say, it's a gamble! Good luck!
  • Not had the email, but asked SP on twitter if this June 23 tariff will be available at the end of this month, as this is when my fix ends.
    They said it would be.
And i still haven't pressed the button.... tomorrow i'm charging the EV and wife is doing all the washing, bedding and all, and then i'll switch.

I wonder if the Russia / Ukraine conflict will rise prices further... it's an easy decision for me, but to be in your shoes @leigho it's very difficult... hurts my head just thinking about it.
  • Just pressed the button and switched to this tariff, with only 4 days left of my current tariff....the Putin effect made it too risky to hold off any longer.
  • Mix fix runs out end of april with Scottish power.
I'm still not sure what to do. I've checked the figures but still can't decide as I've still 2 months left on my fix.
