StartledJesus said:Also the usual ‘Not me guv, see someone else’ response from the chocolate fireguard that is Ofgem. In this case it really isn't a regulatory issue and Ofgem know that they agreed with BG to provide a standard variable rate tariff, so they don't have a helpful perspective as BG are conforming to what they had agreed. If the tariff had been intended to be 'guaranteed' and BG reneged then it would have been a regulatory matter...

From the Mirror - MONEY TROUBLES: 'British Gas cancelled my fixed deal then asked me for £1,971 instead'

We are being, rightly, told to send current meter readings to BG so they cant charge the higher prices in error. Guess what, the site won't let me.After a couple of hours it has let me post the readings.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

So today I received the response from the ombudsman that British gas made in evidence, they have offered a letter and £100 compensation. I have requested £143.69 based on my usage and units to the end of July. I await the response after the 12 April 22. I'm rolling the dice and the compensation is rising. My main point is I hope this gets more traction for the more vulnerable customers who do not complain or are nervous to complain getting auto compensation as a direct result of there behaviour.1

Good now it's going to cost them more because I'm off to the energy ombudsman when I get the deadlock letter. I am not rolling over for £75 quid I have principles.0

jobdone1 said:Remember it was in my contract. A contract is binding. Please post the extract from your contract that shows you had a fixed-rate tariff. I'm sure that when you supply this to the Ombudsman they will agree.Edit: here are the T&C for "Welcome Together" that you should have been supplied with:
https://www.britishgas.co.uk/aem6/content/dam/britishgas/documents/tariffs/terms/welcome-together.pdfThe first paragraph states:The Welcome Together tariff prices are variable meaning the price of your tariff may go up or down but will not exceed the maximum charges set by our regulator, Ofgem. Each maximum charge is calculated using a formula and is currently set every 6 months on 1 April and 1 October in accordance with the gas and electricity supply licence conditions.Did you receive a different set of T&C?

I am not rolling over for £75 quid I have principles.I wouldn't suggest going down that route as if you do then BG win, and you get nothing. You were on a deemed contract agreed between BG and Ofgem and that was for a variable tariff.Your complaint is that BG misinformed you when they described the tariff as both 'variable' and 'guaranteed' and you relied on that information to your detriment...Do let us know what the outcome is, but I wouldn't be expecting it to set any precedent for 'auto compensation'.As far as I know the only place the 'guaranteed' misinformation was shown was on the tariff label and emails that took data from that label, but even there it showed the confusing combination of 'variable' and 'guaranteed', like this one for one of the other SoLR tariffs...This was altered like all the others to remove the guaranteed date, and now shows the current variable pricing ...
