Just noticed that BG has removed the original guarantee dates that were on the SoLR tariffs...

As it was...

As it is now...

I imagine there are going to be a few complaints about this ...

It says Variable so it is not a fixed tariff...

Understood, but until now it has always said that the prices were guaranteed until 2023...
If there was no value in the guaranteed date then there would have been no need to change it...

  • The tariff still ends on the same date and the unit rate does not change !

    What's the issue ?

The issue is that BG have removed any ambiguity from their intentions, I suspect the rates will change in April, or after 6 months from appointment if that is after April.
This is not about a problem now, but a clear indication that there is no intention to hold these prices until the original guaranteed date...
These have always been variable tariffs, but the guaranteed date led some to hope/believe that the rate would be held and they will have taken decisions about switching elsewhere on that basis.
This correction gives a clear signal of intent.

Together Energy - whose former customers have the Welcome Together rate you posted - went under in mid-January.
It will be interesting to see if their rate increases in April, in July, or at some other time.

Exactly, going to be watching with interest.
The People's Energy tariff will be a good indicator as their 6  months is up in March but the tariff does not end until 30th June.

Its a shame BG already wrote to all TE/BE customers and sent a welcome pack with the word 'Guarantee' on. Having put something ambiguous in writing they can't now change it on a whim. The fact they have changed it looks like they've realized their mistake. I'm going to wait for them to try to put prices up and then put in a complaint. It might work, it might not.

BG really are a shambles. How many people managed to get on the defunct Oct 22 tariff despite the fact it was obviously a legacy tariff that was closed.

I've kept the email ,which clearly stated "end date of 31st July 2022" and "guaranteed til 31st July 2022" for the Welcome Neon Reef tariff . I feel a LOT of complaints flying on April 2nd !!!
  • I looked at the welcome pack (neon reef SOLR), even though it say its guaranteed until 31-july-2022

it does say this in the really small print: ~ Prices may increase or decrease at any time. We will give you 30 days advance notice before we increase your prices.

today I have contact BG for other reasons (my online account is broken with PFP/neon reef issues) and asked if this is still valid - the response is (not unexpected tbh)

"we are in the process of reviewing our position and will contact you by letter or email before mid-march to let you know what this means for you."

The weird part is that they kept on making the same mistake on multiple SoLR tariffs spread over a few months, so it isn't going to be easy for them to just say it was an 'error', and it is also easy for a lot of the people on those tariffs to show that they have suffered a loss because there were better fixes around that they could have moved to had they not relied on the statement that the price was guaranteed...
