it does say this in the really small print: ~ Prices may increase or decrease at any time. We will give you 30 days advance notice before we increase your prices.

today I have contact BG for other reasons (my online account is broken with PFP/neon reef issues) and asked if this is still valid - the response is (not unexpected tbh)

"we are in the process of reviewing our position and will contact you by letter or email before mid-march to let you know what this means for you."
I'm not surprised they are reviewing their position as the Ombudsman is going to take a dim view of putting large print statements assuring customers the price is 'guaranteed' and then reversing it in the notes.

Especially when chat agents have confirmed that it will remain the same rate until end July and there are transcripts in existence....

Indeed. Glad I found this. I wondered as it forms the basis and is entitled "Your contract information" how they could then change it without notification. I have had no further notification. This contract information is obviously used directly to make a decision on whether or not to change supplier and take a more expensive fix now. For BG to then change the price in April when they have stated it will be fixed (I too have this in email transcript) would be breach of contract.
  • Thanks for pointing this out, still have our welcome email as well after being switched from Neon Reef and it clearly says Price guaranteed until 31st July 2022.

It does say prices may increase or decrease in the small print but how they can expect to justify offering something as a guarantee if the small print says price can go up or down is beyond me.

I've kept the email ,which clearly stated "end date of 31st July 2022" and "guaranteed til 31st July 2022" for the Welcome Neon Reef tariff . I feel a LOT of complaints flying on April 2nd !!!
I have the exact email, I have just received an email putting me on the new cap rate of the 01st April. What a shambles time to complain

I really can't get my head around how British Gas could have made the mistake of saying a price was 'guaranteed until 31 March 2023' to begin with. Given the price uncertainty at the the time it felt pretty obviously an error to armchair observers here (let alone those here with real industry experience/contacts)!

Im just raising with BG via chat - going to reference this forum discussion and get email transcript. Interestingly using the chatbot I typed "complaint" and it came back with automated message to call back or try again later as they were busy. Immediately reconnected and typed "tariff" then clicked on "I need to speak with someone" and it has put me in the queue!
