    So no £500 refund then.

Have you actually had a bill following the meter readers visit. ?

Did you or the builder plant the bushes ?

    Completely buried and not visible
That looks like one of the brown plastic boxes I mentioned early on in the thread.   It's discoloured a bit over the years.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

If there is a front door to the left of those photos then that is exactly where I would have looked for a gas meter. But hey mystery solved.and at least you haven't got a big gas bill to pay 👍

Are we simply saying that this meter box is on the right of the property rather than the left and in a ground meter box rather than one in the wall ?

Thanks for coming back with an update @JulesSheah

I’m glad you’ve found the meter and it sounds like the estimated readings weren’t too far off the actual which is a bonus!

Now make sure to cut some of those bushes back so the meter is easily accessible for readings and emergencies (hopefully there are none).

I’m still dying to know what’s behind that other panel though…

Bet Scooby and those pesky kids would have found it along with the secret passage to the mine shaft where the caretaker for the local school had set up a grow and was using energy from the other meters he had connected to and hidden from their owners.

At least you have eventually found it now.

Without me reading back again from the start, did you move in as a new build?
If so that shrubbery wouldn't have been so high and the meter would have been clearly visible?
Builders never plant fully grown plants, they do however tend to plant thorny prickly plants in front of meter boxes .

(no idea how next door's father in law saw it, claimed to have seen the pipe!!!)
Bet he reads this thread, and couldn't help himself going out hunting with a machete..

Yes, it was a new build.

If I saw on my HHC ( MDS like to call them data collectors) that this property had an outside box I would have taken 5 minutes to locate that behind a few harmless bushes. Its easier to find that than behind that panel
Its not uncommon to find bushes overgrowing on semi con boxes ( especially with flat dwellers ) given that many people can t be bothered to actually trim them back and  self read meters if they have outside boxes. In their eyes its not their problem
By my standards that meter is a doddle to find . Maybe it was me who was the only meter reader to get a read
In the past  I have been like a terrier after a rat if a property is listed as having an outside box , I would have got it by hook or crook
.I have uncovered several meters totally buried completely with soil  by outside contractors  plus meters underwater after flooding
I expect the OPs helper spotted the gas pipe indoors and just looked where it exited . Seeing as a gas pipe has to travel to the boiler it can easily be traced back
