OK here is the latest position. Firstly the gas meter has thankfully been found. my next door neighbours father in law "found it" as apparently spotted a pipe. I seriously have no idea as to how he did this as nothing is visible, my neighbours house has no windows to see thru on that side and there is a 6ft panel fence, plus the meter itself is buried under 5 ft of shrubbery, but anyway it has been located. it is not where my house builder said it was and is in fact at the opposite corner of my house.
Eon did absolutely nothing to expedite the situation in 5 1/2 months of liaising with what seemed to be about a third of their staff, all of whom are very polite and fill emails with lovely emojis like their customers are all teenagers. My last couple of contacts have been with the complaints department who helpfully have said that they did not know as to how the "dispute" got that far. When I said I was going to switch providers they informed me that many companies are not taking any new customers at the moment, which I viewed as scaremongery. They have offered me £100 as compensation, I refused as whilst I am not really interested in any compensation I felt that was derisory for 5 1/2 months of wasted time and zero effort on their part (whilst on hold once with Eon I counted all the stamps in my 4 passports and discovered had been to the US at least 75 times and Bermuda 25).
I have informed both Eon and the ombudsman that I have located the meter (with some help from seemingly an eagle eyed action man) and the complaint is still open with the ombudsman.
I have no idea as to why my meter is not where it is supposed to be, and according to Barrett's records it still is, judging by the standards of build of both mine and others houses on the development I am not sure as to why am surprised by this.
Thank you all for your words of wisdom and support.
All is well that ends well.11 -
Thanks for closing the chapter, now how do we go about Barretts and getting them to move it? Or is it green gas
It also makes sense about the delays in updates as you were clearly on holiday !!!!!0 -
Thanks for coming back with an update.
Now begs the question of what the meter reading IS compared to your estimated bills!?!?
Are you due a big refund, a big bill, or is it about right? How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Hoorah
Having now found it - is the serial number the same as on your bill ?
Have you been able to read the meter and if so have you given the reading to Eon. You started this thread trying to reclaim £500 of credit - what was the final situation. ?
Take that £100 and move on - a good story for the grandchildren

So is the meter in a proper box or simply hidden in bushes?4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.0

The big question, as others have said, is now how far away from reality are the estimated reads, and who owes who money?I seem to recall way back in this thread that a meter reader claimed to have read the meter. Maybe he did, now the OP has found it.Do please update us again OP.

Oh well I hope you don't end up with a massive bill when you read the actual against what you have been charged1
