OP hasn't logged in for a few weeks. Somehow doubt we'll get an update
    Nooooooooooo !!!

It'll be as heartbreaking as the time the hard disk broke in my Virginmedia set top box when I was 90% through Fringe recordings and it wasn't available on demand.

I have an emotional investment in this thread I want the meter to be found, I want the builders to admit wrong doing - I want a big "we're sorry"  cheque !!

The contents,or lack thereof are rather more intriguing than the hatch in Lost.
Hope the grand reveal,if it ever happens isn't as disappointing though.

I never really got into Lost, half way through episode one and something put me off.

Felt detached from the world as it progressed then the end went to poop and that put me off even bothering to give it another try.

Whereas The Wire - watch the lot twice, and as long as I give myself enough time to forget details, I'd be straight to the storage unit digging out the box set for a third run !!!

    Sorry, getting off topic.

    WHAT'S BEHIND THE PANEL ????

Do we really believe someone is paying bills for 8 years without a single reading?

My gas has never been turned off while servicing a boiler.  I can't think why you would need to do that.  Installing a new boiler is another matter.
Whenever a boiler is serviced its good practice to tightness test (in case gas valve on boiler is passing) and gas rate. Both need access to the meter.

I do. I was a meter reader for 20 years and lots of people were going years and years with blank electric digital meters .Instead of simply replacing the meters , the suppliers ( usually useless EDF and Scot Power ) just accepted estimated readings .
The occupiers were always happy to let me in every 6 months and some openly admitted that they were using as much electricity as possible as heating instead of using the gas central heating.
One said he did nt answer the door when someone came to replace the meter. He liked the set up so much as it was. .
.Once the electric meter has gone blank its not possible or its not financially viable to try and recover the true reading , so occupiers are safe to use as much as they like .

I don t think people really know how slack most of the suppliers actually are. So long as some form of direct debit amount is coming every month they re not concerned too much how much energy is used from the Grid, and that includes on energy theft too.
The OP s experience here proves me correct .He s not alone
Only British Gas run an active Revenue Protection Unit. The rest of them were hopeless.
The DNO s appear to be waking up now though and in my area northern powergrid raided ( along with the police ) 5 cannabis farms in one street alone last Feb in Hexthorpe Doncaster.
I expect meter tampering has really escalated now too with ludicrous high rates which should have dropped by now with much lower wholesale gas prices

I think his 8 weeks of formal complaint with Eon is up and OP is at this very moment writing to the Ombudsman.

I struggle to see how Eon is at fault.

The solution  is in the OP's own hands - start by getting that panel off.

If you are in the South Midlands OP  I'll come and do it for you.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
