So "quite a bit of finance " left on current car.utopia55 said:
I have paid the deposit but the finance and car (and desposti) is totally refundable if I change my mind before driving away with the car or this is what I’m being told by the BMW main dealer.Chris_English said:
This car that you said that you’d recently bought, but that you now say you haven’t bought yet?utopia55 said:Excuse me but who are you to say what I can or can’t afford? Both my partner and I work so we think we deserve something nice to drive. We current have a 2016 Audi A3 with quite a bit finance left to pay off but we just want something newer and nicer.
Getting finance on new,so finance of around £50k,yet your trying to save a few hundred quid on replacement tyres etc.

"Is this an actual BMW dealer or an independent performance place?" It's somewhere close to Lala land in the land that time forgot, could be the last main dealer on the planet of Magrathea or next to the restaurant at the end of the universe.

Wow. You contacted them during the night to renegotiate the price of the car, after them saying previously they wouldnt discount the price at all and you signing the finance agreement for the car and have agreed pickup?utopia55 said:They have knccked off £500 from the asking price to reflect the damaged front splitter
Thats amazing service. And three in a fully chargeable paint protection and interior protection too for free too.
"Added in for free as part of the negotiation. They wouldn't reduce the price of the vehicle"
You must tell us the name of this dealer. They just seem to give things away they dont need to.

No, no its a full BMW franchised dealer apparently, who puts damaged halo models on the forecourt, refuses to take a penny less for them, but then when you pay for the car and agree a pickup date you can ring them in the middle of the night and renegotiate the price.Herzlos said:
It'd cost them less than £500 to replace it.utopia55 said:They have knccked off £500 from the asking price to reflect the damaged front splitter

Even though, as you say, they could replace a front splitter for that.

They reduced the price because it is easier to do that than to replace the splitter. I mean, they must be desperate to get a damaged high performance car out of the showroom. Better to take £500 off the price than to spend the same on replacing it and adding a couple of grand to the sales price. Obviously!

Agreed. These shady back street BMW franchised dealers on their bomb site forecourts just knock them out as cheaply as possible. Its not like they charge premium prices for impeccably presented cars and they've a reputation and brand image to maintain.Phantom151 said:motorguy said:

That does not seem like a very good deal for the purchaser of the car becauseutopia55 said:They have knccked off £500 from the asking price to reflect the damaged front splitter
So, you will buy the car with the £500 discount but then need to pay £1,200 for the replacement part plus fitting means you will be down by at least £2k. That's a "hit" to you of £1.5k.utopia55 said:they can't repair carbon fibre must be a full replacement and its a £1200 piece
You may be best to negotiate more for that damaged splitter.

Amused myself be re-reading some of the old DarkMatter threads last night.
Reminded me of a thread on a car owners forum many years ago (well before DM), where a boy racer stated he kept the passenger seat of his car laid flat because it reduced the weight and therefore improved performance. He had the figures to prove it. It was priceless, even better than DM's Yaris brakes episode. Can't remember what forum it was - wish I could find it now!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
