Such a difficult situation.
Also yesterday she started talking about how she needed to return to Ukraine to RENEW HER SON'S PASSPORT.
She must think we're really thick.
In money news, 2 lots of marking money in, pressure slightly off for now, £1400. Nice.
It was worth it for me (a heavy weekend's work plus four evenings). DH seems to have worked much longer.7 -
Sorry you're suffering these porkies, Alchemilla, but glad you've received the marking money, nice one!2023: the year I get to buy a car6

Hope you find a way to have a good weekend.
If she does go back to Ukr - I wouldn't pay for her accommodation or travel en-route which it sounds like you helped with last time...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Gosh I'm so remiss!
@greent yes I have had some money, though it is by no means a profit-making exercise (nor intended to be)
@savingholmes we said that if they returned to Ukr a second time we'd consider our hosting task (providing safe haven until it was possible to return home) done. She decided not to go.
On Wednesday our Ukr family move into a super cute, tiny cottage that I have furnished for free (if you don't count the diesel) with goodwill and support from the community).
On Thursday she starts her new job, in easy walking distance of (new) home.
On Monday her son starts secondary school.
I'm proud of the opportunity she has to make a life in a lovely place. I feel completely battered and I am counting down the hours because she is so desperately self-obsessed, lazy and demanding.
We will be on good terms when they move out, I'm an emergency contact for her son. Whether she stays in touch may depend on whether she wants anything!
It has been an experience!

Oh - I never for one moment thought it would be a money making exercise - I was just concerned that your payments may have been delayed, as I have heard others have
I'm in awe of anyone opening up their home.
It's a shame that she doesn't appear to realise her good fortune in having you as hosts and the help you have given her to move forwardI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £209 -
Echoing greent's comments about how lucky she's been to have you! It sounds like, at the very last moment, she may have slightly realised when you drew the line at a 2nd visit back to Ukr.
Sorry you're feeling so battered - I could certainly never have done what you did, you've been an absolute star. I hope everything else is chugging along in the background.2023: the year I get to buy a car8 -
Thanks @Karmacat. Things are good save for DD2's mental health. It was always going to be hard as the new term approached.
Her cohort did GCSE RS a year early and she got an 8 which I hope will boost her confidence a bit.6 -
Hi Alchemilla 😊
I'm not surprised you feel battered. It's taken me weeks to recover from my hosting experience and my ladies were lovely and did everything thing they could to help. You've done an amazing thing but it's time to reclaim your life now.

@greent no sorry, I didn't mean that
There was a looonnggg delay but we've been hosting since the end of August.
I am glad I will only have to worry about my own family's energy use and groceries this winter, and not someone who wafts about in a strappy vest and hot pants moaning about the cold
