Do get well soon.  I wish people would isolate because someone gave it to me at the end of September (before my jab was due) & I am still not right as it turned into a bad chest infection needing more antibios as the last lot didn't work.  5 days is never enough.  I am sure it was the dentists yet again.
I test because I need to avoid passing it on to my mum/other elderly contacts. And as I already have Long Covid I want to know whether to expect a relapse. Mind you, it appears I get the relapse as the first symptom... I have surgery booked for 12th December, so am pretty much isolating until then as I can't face it being cancelled because I've picked up a bug.

@f0xh0les, not sure if it’s Covid but it’s definitely my boss’s bug! @greenbee, don’t see any point doing a Covid test, after all you can’t isolate etc any more. The advice in most employment settings is if you feel too ill stay home, otherwise come in. 🤷‍♀️

Did I miss the bit where you took this advice? (And your boss clearly... if he sent you home, then he presumably knew how bad it was!).

We have a terrible sick pay policy, but people who can work from home are expected to do so if they're not well rather than come in and share germs that might put people who can't work from home out of action. I guess it's a question of being pragmatic and trying to enable people not to take time off work with no pay - but not everyone can do their job from home so it's pretty tough on those who can't.

My laptop was still in work from Friday. I would have had to go in to get it anyway. I was in work for two hours in my office with no one else in there (my quality engineer is also off sick) and then in meeting room with windows and the door open. Everyone in the offices has been exposed to boss’s bug repeatedly over the past two weeks, as he kept trying to go back into work.

I will stay at home until my symptoms subside. If it really bothers you I will pick up a Covid test tomorrow when I go out to the local pharmacy, so I can see if I am positive. Not sure if I will be able to stay off work longer than ‘recovery to function’ though, even if I am still positive for Covid.

It's up to you whether you test - but its worth thinking about it if you're likely to come into contact with vulnerable people (although this year's flu isn't great either apparently). We don't let people leave laptops in the office either - part of our business continuity planning is that anyone with a laptop should be able to log on from elsewhere in the event of a site-based issue while we get the DR site up and running (and we base our DR site assessment on people who have to be office-based and won't have a device at home).

A few people have been caught out when the offices have been closed due to snow/heating failure/water leaks and everyone is regularly reminded that laptops are portable... and that if they aren't taking it home (there's no secure storage either) they can have a desktop/thin client and be permanently office based (most of our laptop users are hybrid/multi-site employees if they're not remote).

In all seriousness, particularly if you're driving, taking your laptop home means you don't have to drag yourself in when you don't feel well and you can focus on recovering and just doing the essential stuff that can't be delayed or delegated.

Have a hug KK ((((((())))))) we're all busy giving you lots of advice here which i realise you may not be able to take and I hope you're not feeling too 'got at'  xxxx

I always used to leave my laptop in the office, but I can't bring myself to anymore, after we went home one day and weren't allowed back into the office for 9 months 😂😂😂 I realise that's not particularly likely any more but it's an ingrained habit with me now 😂😂 there has also been the odd day when I've planned to go in but couldn't because of several feet of snow 😂😂 But that's not most people's experience, and if I lived closer (or had a job where I needed to be in more often) I'd be leaving it there all the time!

Anyway, you look after yourself in the way that fits your life best lass xxx

Thanks @Merlin's_Beard and @Cheery_Daff. I’m on site every day so it starts to seem a bit pointless lugging the laptop back and forth. 🤷‍♀️ And I no longer have VPN - apparently IT changed something and you have to get it set up again and they are a bit reluctant to do it …

Anyway, a ‘proper’ MSE question for the collective … 😉

I got paid on Friday but the sainsbugs grocery shop came out on my card on Saturday, so still within November the month but not within the pay period. It was a big shop (there were some additional Christmas bits and various restockings) so I suspect it will push me over groceries budget for November. Do I still include it in November or push it onto December’s budget?

This question is brought into even sharper focus by the fact that we will paid December’s pay on the 23rd, so a whole 8 days before the end of the month - January’s pay day will feel a long time after that …

Wondered about others’ thoughts on this?

Depending on how you do your budget and what would make you feel most comfortable, I personally would put the available share of it on November's budget as that was when the decisions and purchases were made, and carry the rest over to take off of December's budget.
But if the money to cover it can be costed from other pots/accounts, I would do that rather taking it from your normal December budget, as Christmas bits and sensible restockings are absolutely allowable under 'seasonal' or 'occasional' household spends

Hope you feel better soon KK

when I got paid early I just used to move it into savings and ignore it till the right day. I tend not to work to a set grocery budget these days but I would just adjust Decembers down by the element you overspent.

I get paid on the 18th so always work in calendar months and ignore pay periods! So my vote is to do that (even if it means you've technically gone over). You could perhaps then reduce December's budget a little 😂 (which I realise is the same as taking it out of December's budget 😂)

Also a vote for ignoring December's pay until January (i believe @EssexHebridean posts a thread about this every year on the DFW board!)
