Probably an odd angle, but for me there is a point where self respect kicks in.  'I would love to do that for you but me, my skills, my knowledge are worth more than that', and the situation you have just been through impacts on that self worth so it is almost self sabotage if you see what I mean.  You are good at what you do, and you are worth £X has to be the self talk.

ETA I took a half pay short term role after my major blip to rebuild my confidence, but it was a fixed term thing and it worked for me.  It did help.

Can one add that money isn't everything?  I know you aim to be mortgage free but happiness counts for a lot too.  If the charity is doing something that would make you happy that may make up for the difference.

If you do get far enough along the process to discuss salary you may be able to negotiate reduced hours to compensate (or they may have additional funds that they can release given your experience), and then free up some time for freelance work/consulting.
Ooh, interesting thought Greenbee. I had cottoned onto the possibility of negotiating salary but not reduced hours to possibly earn elsewhere … 🤔

Definitely worth trying out the cv and the process before you find the absolutely PERFECT job! This one sounds like it fits many of the boxes at least 😊
Sadly, I updated my CV yesterday morning ready to send it off and they had closed for applications (in less than 24 hours!). Still, I will be ready for another one, if it appears…. 😉🤷‍♀️

That was my thinking too. I have always been quite regimented about what kind of role I would go for in the past. I am deliberately trying to be more open to other options this time, to see if I can find something that will fit me better culturally.

What about if you include travelling time in hours?  I'm guessing it might not make much of a difference for you, but when I include the hours travelling and work out my hourly rate it makes a big difference.  So I'd rather be nearer home with less actual salary and then utilise non-travel hours to make up my salary (selling stuff etc.) and save money (e.g. home cooking etc).
Sadly when I have a look at my budget I have some hard financial realities that I need to meet. I don’t think selling stuff or cooking from scratch more would make up that gap. Plus, I think I would find that quite stressful.

Not an odd angle and I totally get what you mean. I am expecting less pay in a less brutal sector than manufacturing though …

Yes, money isn’t everything but I need a certain amount to meet the minimums of my budget, plus Mr KK is self employed so he sometimes doesn’t or can’t work. I need to have an income that gives me the option of some small buffer to buy us time.

Sounds like a great Saturday as long as you do get some chilling time too. Weather here looking variable and I’m heading into town so no gardening today. Lots of leaves falling though so plenty to gather up.
