Love ferns, we have a small fernery at the back of the garden. They are one of my favorite plants.

Gorgeous! well doneDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Okay, so here’s the thing …. My lower back is aching … I need a new mattress (there’s a definite sag in my current one which is c. 8 years old). I haven’t saved up for it all yet - got about half what I need … gonna have to bite the bullet, get it ordered and shuffle funds from elsewhere to cover the cost … sigh ….
Also, Mr KK wants to invite his whole clan here next Saturday for a barbecue celebration of his nephew’s 30th birthday (we were going to go to one of the local picnic areas, but it likely to be very busy and MiL is stressing about it apparently). The place is a tip, so now I have a week of trying to make it look vaguely good …. 😢
In brighter news, we have taken the catio down and reclaimed our shady sit spot that looks out over the garden - I have missed that so much 😊 I chucked a few pics of said catio up on FBMP and had five hits within an hour! Someone should be collecting tomorrow, pay us £100 and that will then become a safe space for their new rescue cats and that will be £100 towards the rendering costs we still need to find. After talking with my very serious gardening friend this week, I have persuaded Mr KK to agree to insulate the south facing wall in my bedroom. It’s only got two sockets on it and will rob c. 4 inches from the room, but VSGF says that when the south facing wall in her bedroom was insulated like this, her room now stays cooler in the summer by c. 5 degrees. That would really help me sleep. Not sure when we will do it, but it would be nice if it could be this autumn 🤞KKAs at 15.08.25:

New mattress sounds good even if involving money shuffling. Looking after your back is an investment.
I'm sure the place is not a tip and people will understand you've been having work done. They'll mostly be in the garden anyway so don't fret. If MiL says anything shove some building rubble down her top and see how she likes it
Great news about the catio, and finding a do-able effective way to help with summer sleep

Thanks @PennysIntoPounds, actually MiL lives our place and doesn’t judge the weeds - it I’ll be the rest of them … Ah well, this is to make MiL happy, stuff the rest of them 😉
Thanks @savingholmes, @South_coast 😊
Been out for dinner this evening for our celebration of being sub £250K in the mortgage. Poor Mr KK - he paid and his chips were cold and his mushroom was cooked to death - the service was so slow as well … Ah well, I enjoyed my meal 😉
We were talking about what we would do with the £10K he would divert to me ‘for the house’ - use it as OP, use it to pay the mortgage for a few months, other ….? 🤔 I said I was in thing to get back and plug the numbers into the OP calculator and he rolled his eyes at me … 😂 It’s been a nice evening, good for us to spend time together like that, sharing random memories etc.
