Hope you get the family all talking again soon. Could you lock them in a room together and run away to York???

Thanks Daisy and SC, yes hopefully things will change and improve but they are all adults now so I can’t boss them about 😩

Well to say I’m irritated is an understatement , after negotiating what was we thought the deal on renting the factory they have come back and basically withdrawn the no strings personal guarantee and asked for a rent free period too. This is often a normal request but as far as I’m concerned they got a big rent reduction and we discussed lease length etc. and came to a deal which they are now changing after we agreed terms. Dads also done more research on the guy and company and its definitely not as gold plated as first thought 😩 We have been given their new four proposed options - involving rent free periods of varying lengths depending on guarantees given which I’ve not replied to yet, then another email a few hours later saying they want to be in a week! Usually time frame can be up to 12 weeks.
So I’m less hopeful now as I feel like they are taking the Michael and unfortunately my sense of fairness (and stubbornness) overtakes any financial issues this may cause us. Luckily dh is on the same page and the general consensus is we will want far more personal details and potentially a bigger deposit, perhaps with a small rent free period in the future once they have been there a couple of years.

I shall email this morning with a counter offer but we are willing to walk away, I don’t like it when it feels like people are trying it on, that’s what you do before agreeing terms not after in my book. Dad has lots of experience with this type of stuff and says there’s lots of people out there like this, doesn’t make it right though.

Anyway, it might make my new budget plans useless now 🤣

How annoying but I would stick to my guns too. Maybe now is the time to look to sell would this outfit want to buy it or rent first then buy on your terms? Good luck with the family issues hope you don't get dragged too much into it.

  • I would be questioning if they've done this, what else could they do. Can you get references from previous landlords? Why are they moving?

Yup definitely makes me think dodgy outfit,  what else are they going to try to get away with in future.   Id also be cutting my nose off and telling them to do one - written confirmation that you honour the agreed contract by 3 this afternoon or we will assume you are breaking that agreement and we will readvertise (implied threat being if we see your name trying to rent it again we won't even respond to you other than to decline)

I think that's awful, like you i think once you agree a real thats it agreed. I don't think people should get what they want if they don't play fairly and I'd be prepared to lose money waitingon a new renter or buyer rather than deal with them.   Plus if they want in in a week they are desperate so you hold all the cards here
