Finally! I’ve lost 2 big posts 😆
Blimey GP 😱
It’s been a crazy busy weekend moving ds2 and dil into their new fla. Ds2 has somehow managed to get dh to do lots of DIY as well as he knows how busy he is at work so wants to make the most of him 😆so he’s had new door handles, toilet seat, bathroom sink, doors planing so they shut properly as well as new blinds, curtain poles and more. He’s still there but I’ve quit now and come come home, it’s a chaotic mess but I will deal with it later in the week. It’s just not me it’s the first time it’s just the two of us in nearly thirty years! I’m feeling sad about them having moved out, don’t get me wrong I’m really happy for them, it’s a great achievement that they all have partners who suit them and treat them well and their own homes already, but it’s sad for me as it’s all flown by so quickly! I’ll miss them so much , it’s the end of an era ❤️
Time to look forwards now though, I shan’t wallow past this evening ☹️ I need to get back to my old self and stop feeling like I’m a bit old and fragile which I have been lately if I’m honest.Anyway plans for this week will be written in a daily basis (mse website permitting!)
Monday:
Take mum to shopping centre for weekly trip
food shop - for two people!!!!!!!Buy silver trays for batch cooking and root touch up
wash and dry all clothes
clean out the second fridge and claim it back from ds2 😆
make a fuss of dotty cat as she spent every moment she could with ds2 and dil
sell three items on vinted
make orzo salad, normal salad for dinner with chicken for dh
back tomorrow with the next list 😬MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁5 -
I know exactly what you mean. My daughter moved with her partner into their own house and my Son did the same with his partner the year after. I still miss them they aren’t that far away at least. But will never be the same again. I find that cooking for 4 I can freeze 2 meals for another time. The groceries bill has gone down as well.Washing has decreased. It’s good your planning your time. Ah finally it will let me post!Thank you MMP, I’m glad your’s aren’t far away 🙂 I’ll see them, it’s just I know it won’t be the same as the impromptu chats about nothing much, or the car journeys blasting out music going to the cinema, the little things. When I see the others it’s often catch up time and more often that not with others there. It’s normal I know and I will adjust, just not yet clearly 🥲
Yesterday’s to do list got completed, I’ve not bothered writing one now for today as it’s a bit late 😆 this morning I went and got a blood check at hospital and then an X-ray as I can feel a bone moving a bit where I had the surgery (probably nothing and started a year afterwards), all done within about half an hour! Then off to the factory for a visit with the guys, then met best friend for a Poundland trip where I bought some bits so I can get on and sugar soap the whole room before decorating at some point. Not much else to report, made a summer orzo salad today, Monday we needed up having cauliflower cheese instead to use up a cauli that had been lurking awhile 😆 listed six items on vinted, another three tomorrow, no sales yet.Currently about to check the finances and decide if we can afford to visit York next weekend, it was originally a trip to centreparcs whch I got a refund on, dh says he has no money and I have none put by 🤔 can’t borrow my parents car so electric charging and money for coffee out at breakfast and maybe one meal while we are there 🤷♀️ also dh has lots of work to do, so I’m not sure yet. Would be nice though, although I now would have to arrange a cat sitter 😩MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁3 -
Another hot day here 🥵 plans are to stay in and be productive. First job is to clean the main bathroom on the middle floor now they moved out, needs a good scrub everywhere and for the first time I’ve bought some of those white tile pens to try after I’ve bleached it all, doesn’t need to last as we never use that bathroom. The rest of the list is :
Bathroom cleanWashing the vast amount of mismatched towels
we have from many years ago, to donate to the animal rescue at the end of our road.Start clearing the main front bedroom that was ds1’s which he never fully emptied 😒 move it to ds2s room and scrub it all with sugar soap
Give back the “dolly” to dad we borrowed to
help ds2 move
list three items on vinted
Work out if we can afford york 🙂MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁6 -

Oh that’s strange, this morning’s post has vanished 😳
Managed to clear the room and clean it up a bit, found some er, shuddesome things I wish I hadn’t 😒 a couple of tip runs done and it’s ready to prep to paint.Off out now to the cinema with ds2 to see late night horror film, for some reason I’m awake in the evenings again so feeling confident to drive myself home late now he’s moved out 😁MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁4 -
Eek to the shuddersome things

Wow it’s hot already 🥵 dh is already at ds2’s flat to help the plumber (from the builders next door where he will soon be working) fix the new taps and basin there as for some reason dh couldn’t do it as it was stuck. Then he’s off to work for the weekend, hopefully not much longer of this malarkey though and he will have to see me at weekends 😁
Best friend has instructed me not to paint the bedroom this weekend as it’s too hot, I think she may have a point really as there’s no rush. Perhaps I’ll just go and choose the paint instead 😆 I want to get testers but they were about £2.50 each the other day day when ds2 bought some , so I might just take a chance 😬
I’ve listed some stuff on vinted and sold two items yesterday totalling £12.60, ideally I’d like to make enough this weekend to pay for York next weekend. Dh has no spare money and the little surplus we have the next couple of months from dhs wages I want to save towards next march’s cruise, we have a balance to pay of £1419 on 31st December.
I’ve looked at the finances and we currently have:
- £4,954.80 on an interest free cc which runs out this November
- £3,207.21 plus still £535 for my echo scan , £500 for two remaining kids scans to be added, plus half the March cruise balance of £709.50. This 0% cc runs out March 2027. So a possible total of £4,951.71
If they pay the last two months rent I can use all of it £1800x 2 to knock down the first cc, plus I’m planning on hopefully using £118.25 pm from dhs wages to pay the other half of the cruise due. This leaves a surplus of £42.14 for July 🙄
Figures might take a while to settle now the household has halved, I’e decided to set the grocery budget at £10 a day based on a 31 day month, so £310. Actually I may as well list my current monthly expenses if anyone fancies a nosey, utilities must do down though!
So payday on 30th June for July: (no longer working in arrears hooray!)
£32.99 gym
£7.50 mobile sim
£11.45 nhs prepay certificate for my tablets
£19.99 cineworld pass (dh pays his from personal spends, I waste more on home stuff so don’t 😆)
£193 council tax over 12 months
£15 tv licence
£22.13 life ins
£101.33 water (currently no meter but unsure if I want to change yet)
£238.03 gas and elec (should reduce soon, was in debt and using more with kids)
£89.99 sky/Netflix for all and multi room/broadband
£310 grocery budget inc.cats and cleaning/toiletries
£200 Xmas and birthdays
£100 car and home ins, car tax and mot (new higher amount)
£125 my personal spends
£125 dh spends
£30 vet savings (new)
£40 dentist (new) i need three monthly cleans due to heart valve
£53 minimum payment on virgin cc
£80.17 minimum payment on marks cc (will rise pm to £124 when scans and half cruise added)
£68.47 iou nationwide as I’ve overspent on bits for the new room 😆
£118.25 first of 6 payments to clear the other half of cruise by Xmas
£42.14 surplus to go to York and buy paint 😩
Dh should have this month then July and august on his old pay of £2023 pm, then we think maybe it will be a little higher, I’m estimating about £200 ish maybe? After allowing for tax and fees as he will be self employed. Not a sniff of a new tenant for the factory ☹️ that won’t change until it’s cleared and redecorated I’m sure, I feel like it’s possible both the rent (when rented) and his wages may be a similar amount so once things settle we should be able to see how possible it is to live on just the rent in the future once we have a (very) substantial emergency fund and have spent some money on the house.Off to make coffee and see what else I can sell on vinted now, I’m determined to go to York next week as as my budget shows I can’t afford it 😆 I think we need £60 ish maybe to charge the car as it’s summer, then I’ll take the usual £10 a day budget for food, then i need money for coffee out and a pastry every morning in neros with the 25% off code so another £30 ish plus a bit of beer and ice cream money, and that’s if we don’t go anywhere that costs….MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁4 -
I think I'd still buy the testers NG, £2.50 is not a great outlay as opposed to potentially shelling out for a whole room's worth and then finding you don't like it.
Do you still need Sky multiroom now there's just the two of you?Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
