No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

daisy_1571 said:I think your 3rd option makes little sense? I don't think you are going to save money if you are going to lose the full deposit with the added immediate cost that you haven't yet paid the full deposit so its not like money you've already spent ages ago? Maybe my early morning maths can't see it but I dont see the saving.
Anyhoo, that aside - is the wedding one you will a) be invited to and b) want to go to ? (I know I cant be bothered with other folk's weddings any more. A whole lot of hanging around for a ceremony that takes half an hour. Cba these days 😆 would rather be in my house than waiting on 400 pictures of the bride and groom be taken while guests are standing about waiting to get the meal started 😆 what a grump I am ! I'd love to have the excuse I'm on holiday to get me out of going) If it turns out you rebook then they change the date or decide to go away or have a very small wedding you might find it would never have been a problem? I'd say you do what you want and if the wedding doesn't clash then great, if it does well that's just one of those things??? (But maybe that's just me and how I feel about weddings 😆)
Dxxx
It’s a wedding of a friend I only really see in a group a few times a year, it’s nearby at a local hotel so I’ll go if I’m here but it’s more out of my comfort zone when I hardly know anyone….

Think the ‘poor’ mindset is probably wise at the moment NG - with everything up in the air with the factory etc and also the 0% debt you’re carrying - you’ll stop feeling poor when you catch up with yourself a bit (I highly recommend it - feels great!).
I’m with SC about the complicated permutations though - like most of your complex calculations, I’ll just nod along! 😂Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

@daisy_1571 i did laugh at the wedding thoughts, so true really
As for the cruise, surely they can reprice for you? So you get it at the now advertised price?
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!1 -
Hi Vix, hope you are well 😊 yes I think I agree, I feel like I need to bide my time and get a bit straighter for the moment.Hi lulabelle and Watty, sadly it’s not that cruise line ☹️ I’ve emailed and received a reply, as expected they don’t price match or drop the price if already booked, well they do within 24 hours with proof (which I’ve used before with another cruise line) so it’s pay the higher price or cancel and rebook it cheaper. If we couldn’t go next year for any reason we would be liable balance of the low deposit anyway £367 so the only drawback I see is if we cancel and rebook now and then are not able to go - we would lose the £367 still plus the new deposit (not checked yet but probable another £300 odd) seems like it may be worth the risk, but then I have a high cancellation rate this last year or so 😂
Worn out today and about to go to the gym, I spent hours yesterday with dil and the ds2 cleaning their new kitchen and moving all the decorating stuff that was left late Sunday night, the carpets and lino are now being fitted tomorrow instead of Friday so it was a rush. It was all painted over the weekend by dh, dil’s dad and stepdad, it’s look great I’m so pleased for them. They have chosen the same two colours for their living room as we have - olive and off white. Well when I say chosen I mean stolen the actual pots 😆 it will be a home from home! Some rash unplanned spending has been done by myself on vinted, I got carried away! I’ve too many clothes that I don’t wear day to day as they are too small/ too restrictive. I’ve got lots of jeans that are not comfy and and T-shirts that are a bit “nothingy” When the weather cools I prefer cosy stuff like tracksuit bottoms indoors and leggings, so I’ve bought some longer tops in Autumn colours in a bigger size 🥲. I don’t need more clothes just different ones, I’ve a small amount of scruffy clothes I wear and but nicer clothes that I don’t so much usually. Anyway I got a couple of loose boho type joules tops, a couple of tunic tops or maybe they are dresses 🤷♀️ and a lovely knee length dress covered in woodland animals that I spotted in a joules shop years ago on a weekend away and couldn’t afford 😆 So now I’m waiting for it all to arrive, it’s like Xmas 😬 although I won’t be wearing any for a while as it’s so hot. If they don’t fit or I end up somehow losing weight ( at the moment this seems unlikely) I will resell so not a big loss. I’ve also taken to spotting stuff out and about I might want, like yesterday I tried on some n@w look jeggings for £16.99 , didn’t buy and have spotted some new on vinted for £3 which I might get as well….MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁5 -
Oh newgirly - I was just reading about an 81 year old driver who was filmed driving their car down the Spanish Steps in Rome as they mistook it for a road 😬 Thank heavens it was early in the morning and there weren't many people about.
Hope all well with you and you're managing to stay cool in the heat.
