😆 Brillant Watty! You have to admit it’s mse 😉

I’ve a dilemma 😩 friend is getting married next November (2026)  so I looked quickly the date we are on our arctic cruise the same month, checking the website instead of trawling through my emails, and saw the price has dropped - a LOT! This is highly unusual and to my knowledge the only time it’s dropped after we have booked.

So we paid a low deposit of £49 each (special offer, we will have to pay the rest of the deposit if we cancel of an extra £367) the cruise booking we have is £1550 pp that’s the price to pick your own cabin and dining time, the same exact cabin grade is now £1111 pp 😱 but I could also drop down to an allocated cabin and dining for £902 pp so a huge saving. I would have to cough up the balance of the deposit to cancel and a new deposit so £367 and £270 odd now.

Or we could transfer it for £25 pp to a different one, there’s not many options except an earlier one on October next year for £949 pp or this year for £1030pp in late nov. I’m not keen on going in October as there is still a lot of daylight and less snow , around 12 hours a day instead of not much at all.

So do I keep it as it is , happy with date but around an extra £1k

rebook for this nov - happy with date, happier with price but riskier with everything still up in the air (save about £1k)

cancel and rebook the same one to save £500 odd but have to pay upfront now to do that around £650

Also I’m on hold to the cruise company seeing if excursions are already sold out, if they are that’s 2025 off the table.

My parents are also on this one and their cabin costs are a lot higher!

Any input welcome, I’m trying to be sensible with money at the moment, so not sure whether it’s better to leave it as it is and pay a lot more or just move it forwards and pay less 🤔

What’s that phrase.. you’ve got to speculate to accumulate! Or in this case, save £500! I think it all depends on if you’ve got the available money or credit to do it. The sums make sense to rebook to save otherwise but not if it’ll leave you short.

Thank you ladysummerisle, I’m still unsure, it’s wasting money to save money 😆 I need to take into account it’s more money we lose on the deposit if for any reason we need to cancel next year, but really it’s seems spending to save might be the best option 🤷‍♀️ will ponder some more today….

I think you should change to this year. After all you've been through you need a treat to celebrate. You've also got to stop thinking in the 'we are poor' mindset, you are so good with money, you can afford a treat and will easily work out a way to pay if off.

Maybe my early morning maths can't see it but I dont see the saving.
I must admit, I glazed over and stopped reading the different permutations 😅!

Love the thoughts on weddings, Daisy!
