newgirly - forgive me for not knowing much about the mechanics of healthcare provisions, but whilst the cost of these appt's and scan under the private system is a bit ouchy, it will 🤞provide reassurance, and surely show progress one year on.

I'm quite sure if you were under the nhs system, you'd be on a long waiting list, and that's anxiety inducing in itself - for any condition/treatment.  But following this scan, is there anyway you can go back to your GP (I seem to recall your GP practice is quite supportive?) and see if (going forward) there is an NHS schedule for checkups - annual, 3 yearly - whatever - that you could segue into and get the ongoing monitoring/reassurance that you need?

I know you could do with the 'national insurance' option now, what with everything else going on, but I do think the outlay is entirely reasonable in the circumstances.

    New picnic ware sounds fun!

We are big lovers of a car picnic, not so posh that we have lunch boxes though, a sandwich in a bread bag (I save all the bread bags for freezing/packing stuff in) and a coffee in our insulated mugs/water bottles filled.  Being coeliac means eating on the go is so hit and miss (and expensive) that this is a much safer option for us.  We had to rush to Kent a few weeks ago and didn’t get time to pack food,  trying to find something other than a pack of crisps and a yogurt was hard at the services.

I second contacting your GP for these ongoing tests. A relative underwent the same sort of procedure at The Brompton on the nhs and all follow ups have been really prompt. Excellent care it seems.

Sorry to read about all the upheaval with DHs work, would selling the factory be an option and then downsizing/retirement?

Hi greying, I had decided to go for one check up with the original cardiologist I saw and then see what he said about further checks. I think if it’s £200 odd a time it’s pretty good value if you can choose your appointment time and know who your are seeing, I think being seen for a check up on the nhs might be quite different in that regard, plus he’s saying if it’s not necessary after the first year all being well than I feel I might be wasting an appointment for someone very anxious waiting to find out what’s wrong? I know my first cardiology appointment through the nhs came through four months after the urgent letter was sent (by which time I’d had the op and then obviously cancelled the nhs route) so obviously big delays bearing in mind it was urgent. I don’t know , I will ask the gp on my next appointment, I think my gut felling is to go private every few years maybe. I’m just shocked I need another heart scan this week, the surgeon originally said it wouldn’t be needed unless the check up flagged something up 😳 oh well, the good thing is I’ve got the scan and appointment for results on the same day this week so I guess I’ll find out soon!

Hi jellytots, selling the factory would be a last resort, the plan we are hoping for is to have the rent (when rented!) as a pension / savings towards retirement when dh stops work hopefully early. The tax due in selling and costs involves would cost probably £100k at least and when rented it gives a good yield compared to less risky investments, we would also like to pass it on to the kids in the future. Investing is something we know nothing about really and had we had a windfall we would not have bought one property to rent out as it’s all our eggs in one basket, but circumstances brought us where we are and I’m not sure what else would provide such a good return whilst not really risking the capital? But like I say we are pretty ignorant when it comes to investing (as we have never had any money spare 😆). No interest still though and it’s advertised as POA so not like price reduction will make a difference. That being said we still don’t have a sign and it’s situated on a main road so it should do!

I will be planning some picnics while we are away, I too hate buying at the services and going in them to be honest 😆

Quiet weekend here, dh working both days again, he’s brought home some work for me that needs doing today so I’ll start after I take mum out to the shops, need to pop to Lidl too and get a few bits - all I seem to be doing is food shopping lately 😩 I’ve had a look at the budget and decided to put £137 by as an allowance on the cc to spend in York, we are going (hopefully if scan results ok 😱) straight from Bart’s to York on Thursday afternoon, then home Tuesday morning. £137 is an odd amount I know but with the extra costs I’ve budgeted for dh getting paid until end of august with the rent and there will be a balance left on the 0% cc due to the extra hospital bills , so I rounded it up from £43.77 pm needing paying off to a round £50 that we will have to pay back on the 0% cc over the 22 month interest free period. Dh has been told he’s responsible for fuel or electric costs,  it sure if we will swap cars with dad this weekend to save hassle. So a budget of £27.40 per day for two, should be enough to eat and do a few bits while we are away 😬

I think peace of mind is priceless, newgirly - and seeing a named consultant that you perhaps have already dealt with, on a confirmed date/time is part of that reassurance.  I think you're right to go down the route you're on - if there was less of a 'gap' in the private vs public sector route, it's possible segueing back in might be feasible - but how you've set it out, it seems like a much better option to stick with the private route for the time being.

Oh gosh newgirly - sometimes knowing "something" is too worrying!  I can see how professionals immersed in it everyday get too 'matter of fact' in their reporting.  Perhaps it's common and most of us are wandering around with leaky valves 🤔, but there could have been a bit better explanation or, at the very least reassurance.

Your day at Saltburn sounds wonderful.  Thanks for "taking us along" again.  I've never been to Saltburn, although I knew about the cliff railway there.  You did all the things I would like to do if I ever get there 😁

Hope the rest of your stay is enjoyable.  I don't know why 'eating a sandwich in a church' is giving me "Paddington" vibes - but enjoy! 😁🤣

    Hi Greying and Daisy 🙂

We didn’t go to Scarborough and have never actually been so far, it’s on the list and I will look out for the steam fair museum  thank you. We didn’t have any marmalade sandwiches in the end 😆 I did mean outside the minster not inside though 😬

It’s been an eventful week, we came back Monday quite late after a wander into town to pick up fat rascals from Betty’s, Tuesday dh finally had his meeting with “the man in charge” by zoom at work which I said in on to take notes (out of sight). Very frustrating! Basically not interested in the new client dh has just got with £100k of work per year 🤷‍♀️ just a lot of drivel about how they have done the best for everyone over the last seven years, made no redundancies (er, well me , ds2 and the lady who ran the office for 25 years clearly didn’t count!) as well as effectively making people redundant now!

Anyway the end result is dh has agreed to three months notice with one months extra pay at the end, they will keep paying the rent however the word “trying” was inserted into that conversation 😡  dh received an email late last night outlining the discussion with a new bit added that was not discussed, him helping to move the whole thing over to the new location. This may have been the last straw of many straws 🤣 as he’s said he’s not planning on that but hasn’t replied to the message.

Its payday on the 31st and the rent is due (first of three payments left) on the 1st, so now it’s a countdown to will we get paid 😳 he’s had now three job offers from the neighbours at the industrial estate, security, decorating and the transport monitoring company ds1 used to work for, so that’s good.

Finance wise, I’ve cancelled our two week cruise in September now 🥲 it’s was a combination of being quite dear and needing to go on the 0% cc as well as bad timing work wise and the last cruise being a tad stressful! I’m also cancelling our trip to Centerparcs in July , it was a 3 night one in the hotel self catering room and to be honest it’s a lot at £419 before we spend any money there, plus it was just the two of us. I’ve booked the flat in York for the same weekend so we will do that instead and maybe book a night or two somewhere else to tag on again like we did when we went to Durham last year.

I’m planning the finances for the next three months as if we get the wage and rent but that may not happen of course. So now we are mf there is a surplus, I will prioritise what needs doing first :

1). Work out a float for the current account, we have been working in arrears if you like for ages, the bills come out and at the end of the month the money goes in to cover it- usually I hold some money in the offset to keep it looking healthy, but I want that back in the offset permanently now!

2). Credit card one -is 0% but deal ends nov

3). credit card two, a deal ends 2027

4). car- on high interest rate 9.9% but dh doesn’t want to clear yet he he has to cough up 😆- currently business is making the payments.

So I’ll look at all of this today and work out at least a three month plan 🙂
