Oops I didn’t do any washing yesterday and the weather looks grey now 😩
My Aunt is visiting again today, it’s the third time in a month which is unheard of but I think she’s trying to keep me busy before the surgery. I need to spend a bit of time thinking about all things things I need to ask as I think it’s a possibly a pre op appointment as well as more tests and scans Thursday. Is it bad if the first question is when will I be able able to dye my roots afterwards? 😬 I’m already looking disheveled as I can’t dye it in the run up 😆
Seriously though I don’t know how much to do to organise things prior, when I had a brief scare a few years ago I closed all extra accounts and stopped running through for free money as it was so complicated, so I’ve really only got one place with all accounts, some in my name some in joint. Dh doesn’t have online banking for the joint account even, he runs his own separate account and money goes in that. It’s getting close to operation day so I think I need to just give him the log in incase anything goes wrong perhaps and the mortgage details. It’s difficult to know the right balance of being organised and upsetting him, I got majorly told off suggesting I write letters to the kids when I first found out just incase! One thing that has irritated me this week is the local surgery. So initially I was unsure if I would be going private or NHS, the private cardiologist sent a letter to my GP the day I saw him to tell her to refer me to a certain hospital urgently (they had seen the results prior) and I got copied into an email over a week an a half later which was the referral. That’s a long time to send an urgent email referral… anyway Friday just gone I popped in to ask if they could arrange a gp letter for the holiday company saying I’m unfit to travel, I got a call back saying they need a form from the website which I took straight in. Yesterday I got three phone calls from the receptionist and the gp asking details and telling me it’s ready and how much cash to bring in, it was done and ready to collect! Am I missing something? I’m pretty confident the referral was done when I received my email as I was checking the nhs app daily too and it popped up the day I got the email, seems pretty bad if that’s the case! Not that it matters now I was just shocked how quickly they managed the holiday letter 😳
Anyway I’m waffling now so off to put some washing on and clear up this mornings cat carnage, they are shut out of ds2’s room while they are on the cruise due to not being allowed alone with the hamster, so they are ransacking the house on a daily basis in protest 😂MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁5 -
Everything will go well, but you are a planner.
If you feel the need to write instructions or things down then do so, but leave with a good friend/family member to hand over should the need arise. It will stop you worrying and not upset your close family before the op.
My family know that my "Dying Tidily Log" is next to the wills in the filing cabinet. Based on the will as being the first place they will look !!
It is updated every year and contains things like NI Number, passport and driving licence number, pension details, insurance details for car and house, as well as bank account numbers and savings details. It also has a list of people who I would want notifying should something happen to me.
Its a regular between Christmas and New Year task for me to update it - based on who we have been told in Christmas Cards, has popped their clogs the previous year !!
Good luck going forward.6 -
I second this. Definitely not a morbid thing. To tell you not to write things that you want to is kinda like stating that he/they expects you are immortal. We are all going to go at some point so do it. Thats a good idea for a dying tidily box, we should all have that I think. When I went in for a general anaesthetic I wrote letters. When I came out with all well, I destroyed them. it was my decision, nobody knew but had something been discovered or went wrong they were there in my bag to be found. In a way, its little to do with the op as people go every day unexpectedly young, in an accident, etc etc
Its up to you if you do a set in time letter which can be destroyed, or future letters which you can holding or add as and when.
Sending lots of hugs

Thanks guys, these things are popping in to my head and I’m not sure what the normal thing to do is 🙄 I will defiantly leave basic instructions with dh for the finances, I’m still not sure about the letters yet!Aunt has come down and brought a knitted duck, her first of many that she will make and hid on our cruise next year. I have however stolen this one as she is so cute, I need to give her a name though 😊MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁7

I tried and failed to have some of these conversations with my OH before my big op. He just found it too upsetting. Writing things down is a great solution that can make you feel calm but won’t be too confronting for your DH.
The duckling is adorable and I put forward ‘Quacker’ as a name.2 -
No to ducky but yes to Daisy 😊
Re reading your posts debsnewbudget and daisy I think I’ll leave the basics for dh with the finances and also make a few extra notes like your dyingtidily box, with a view to sorting everything else in the future that is long overdue, like organising the paperwork and doing pension research 😱MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁4 -
I think a dyingtidily box is a great idea and will be nicking the idea myself. Better to be prepared and not need it. I am sure the surgery will go wellMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19
