@Wednesday2000. I’ve been hair slugging for years, although I didn’t know it was called that.  I use coconut oil and cover my hair in a shower cap. I tend not to sleep in it though.

    Hello Ladies,

I got a ticket for only £4 to watch the play Favour at The Bush Theatre. The cheapest ticket I would of bought would have been £12, so I saved myself £8.   :)

Favour is a play about 3 Asian women and  an Asian teenager.

There was lots of dramatic moments and great dialogue. There was a grandmother who had been raising her teenage granddaughter. Her daughter (the granddaughter's mother) comes out of prison after serving 2 years for fraud with regards to a mortgage.

The 3 generations interacted so well. The other mature Asian woman was the best friend of the grandmother.

I really loved this all female play. For me it was a 9.5/10.   <3

I bought myself a copy of the book of the play.    :)

The temperature was bearable today in South London, but I will not be going out again until Wednesday when the pinnacle of this heatwave will be over. I can hardly believe we will have record temperatures of 37 degrees on Monday and 40 degrees on Tuesday. I will stay at home with my fan and plenty of ice cold bottles of water to keep me hydrated.

Like @sugarbaby125, I found the weather bearable today.  We had  really productive day, painting DS bedroom.   We did most of it today and we have a few more hours to do in order to finish it off.  It’s been the easiest room to decorate, so far and we are really pleased with how well it it a going.

I am dreading this hot weather as I couldn't sleep last week, especially mid week. I'm not leaving the house the next two days apart from hanging up the washing in my garden! I read on IG that a man bought some doggy cooling pads from B&M and used them as pillows at night and that was supposed to work quite well. My husband is at work today so I asked him to look in Wilkinson's to see if he can buy us some of the doggy pads and one for my dog too. I even might move our bed into the other bedroom as it is cooler on that side of the house.

My brother booked us an Airbnb for our trip to York and looking at it made me think about my house and doing the same. If we went on holiday we could let out our house and then get some of the money we spent on the holiday back. We are so close to the beach here. I looked online briefly on Airbnb and there was a one bed maisonette in Westcliff-on-Sea (a slightly less nice area than where I live) and that was booked up all summer. It would be much easier to do when we didn't have any pets, though, but that is one way of making some money when my husband retires that I hadn't considered before.:)

    Hello Ladies,

Chanie, you and your husband have really worked hard with all of the decorating in your home.

Wednesday, at least the heatwave is coming to an end. Hopefully you will be able to sleep again soon.

Wednesday I too have been toying with the idea of buying a property suitable for letting out as an air B&B. I live on the edge of the Peak District, the beauty of which means it's is a year long holiday season. I know you live at the seaside but out of season mini breaks are very popular now, especially with properties that go for the "luxury boutique hotel" experience.

I would only need to move a few miles further north and I would be smack bang in the prime tourist area.  As you say it would be a relatively simple way of boosting your retirement income, especially if you used a good agency to take care of things.  I have looked at buying a couple of properties to let out to long term tenants but I really don't want the hassle of BTL or having to tie up my capital, so I think an air B&B might work for me too.

I think that with a holiday let you could give it a whirl with very little capital outlay and if it didn't work out then you've not really lost anything.  Just use a good agent and take out proper insurance.
Oh yes, that would be very popular with tourists in an area where you live. :)My online friend lives in the south of France but loves Brighton and she often stays in Airbnb's there and she said on her recent trip that a lot of local people she spoke to are renting our their places to tourists as it is easy money. I read a bit on this forum about it and they were saying to see if you could make money renting a spare bedroom instead. I will have to read up on it, obviously.

My husband is planning to retire in 2026 now (I will be 50 that year) and we got his pension projection the other day, but to me it doesn't seem like enough money now with the way prices have shot up. I was always thinking that we could downsize to a flat to free up more cash, but then I keep reading how hot flats get in the summer, especially top floor and south facing. The flats I have my eye on my Rightmove alerts are like that as they overlook the sea. I'm overly cautious, though and do have a tendency to overthink everything. :D

Well done with the decorating, Chanie 😊

I hope everyone is managing to stay as cool as they can in today's increased heat? It's actually not too bad here - although is expected to rise to 33° tomorrow. That's way lower than some of you will be getting - I looked at our previous location in the West Midlands and it's due to reach 39° there 😳 I'm not a fan of really hot weather either, so for that reason (only) I'm almost pleased we sold that house. It's been reasonably ok here at night, despite our bedrooms being in the hottest part of the building - I've been keeping the bedroom curtains closed during the day which has definitely helped 😉 If it's as hot as I fear over the next couple of nights I'm going to suggest sleeping downstairs!

We are also in a prime holiday/Airbnb location being rurally situated a couple of miles from the boutique market town of Llandeilo and about ten minutes drive from the Brecon Beacons. Our nearest neighbour has a converted cart lodge attached to his house which is let out for holidays and is booked solid for most of the year. The couple living in the mansion in whose former grounds our mill sits also let out a few holiday properties on their remaining land. They all make an absolute fortune!

I wouldn't fancy strangers staying in our home though and have never enjoyed holidays (mostly gites in France, although we did once stay in an Anglesey annex to a huge house with pool) where the owners live on site....not enough privacy for my liking, lol 😆

Anyway, after enjoying a relaxing day off from the building work yesterday, DH is getting on with building the walls forming the new cloakroom today which is terribly exciting 😃 Fortunately it's lovely and cool in there.

When im not needed labouring, I'm out in the shady area of the garden, going through what needs purchasing for the project, ordering stuff etc. I did make a couple of slightly 'frivolous' but bargainicious purchases - some Mind the Gap (a Transylvanian brand) fabric to upholster an ottoman or small chair and a small (but pretty) 7' x 5' wool rug both of which will be used in the extensions when built 😁

    Edited to remove typo!
