I'm staying cool enough here at the moment, but I do have my fan going almost constantly. I think I'm going to close these blinds too to keep the sunlight out.5 -
Lol @ Maman 😂😂😂
As I said on the other thread, it's cooling here with a bit of a breeze. Since posting we've had a few spits and spots of rain as well as a few rumbles of thunder...lucky I brought the washing in!
I'm doing a little fabbing in the kitchen and laundry cupboard today - ideally I'd like to have the art I'm working on finished before DH hangs the wallpaper on the chimney breast, but I'm struggling with the colours as I don't seem to have the right shade of blue for the lettering. Might have to rethink that one so that's stalled for now...unless I can mix it myself 🙄
Meanwhile I've finally put up the fabric 'skirts' in the laundry cupboard - I do need to hem them still and do something about the bare walls, which I'd planned to tile (above the sink) with some Fired Earth tiles left from our last-but-one house. However in such a small space I think that would be overkill!
The little laundry area is a vast improvement on the set up we had here for the first three years (washing machine in a partially open to the elements outbuilding, lol 😆). You can see how it ties in with the kitchen, although admittedly the tiny sink is only suitable for washing the smallest of smalls 🤣🤣🤣...

Glad you share my sense of humour. 😉
It's baking hot here too. We had a quick shower of rain earlier but it didn't last long. One tip for staying cool is to use those blocks that go in cool bags. It's something I did in France in 2003 during a heatwave. Just use them as you would a hot water bottle but in reverse.
Super photos @liberty_lily. Maybe plain, chalky walls are appropriate for the utility space as they resemble the old, whitewashed outhouses of the era you're creating. 🤔
You're making excellent progress with the decorating @chanie. I think you said that your DS was having your old room and his was going to become your home office. Any plans on how to decorate that?
Good idea to think about extra income in retirement @Wednesday2000. I agree with @helensbiggestfan though that you should think of doing it all through an agent as it's a big responsibility to take on with lots of potential hassle.
I've been out for lunch in a country pub today but I was a cheap date as I only drank water! 🤣 It wasn't only because I wanted to stay hydrated. I know I've put on some pounds on holiday so I'm working to get back to my preferred weight. I don't weigh myself at home but I know the loose dresses I've been wearing to keep cool are covering a multitude of sins. Well done on your losses @sugarbaby125.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I bought myself new sandals last week.

Mine were a bit cheaper than that as I got them in the sale at the old Scholl shop. This is my third pair of fit flops. I* love them. I now have black, rose gold and the new silver pair. 😊5 -

Phew!!!! Glad that's over. It was 39C here yesterday. 24C forecast for today. Much more manageable. Still feel like a limp rag though, I think it will take me a day or so to catch up on my sleep and fully recover. My garden has taken a battering, looks like I've lost one of my favourite camellias and there's one or two shrubs with badly scorched leaves. But hey, my house hasnt burnt down and plants can be replaced.Like I saId I do feel rather limp and bedraggled. Going to give myself a deep clean face mask this morning. Get rid of any sweat and gunk that might be blocking my pores. Then a really good all over slathering, my skin feels as parched as the soil in my garden, 😂🤣.I mentioned this on the other thread.....A couple of years ago I bought myself a Revitive foot massager, the one that Ian Botham and Eamon Holmes's advertise. Used it a couple of times but wasnt impressed so put it away and forgot about it. Discovered it a few weeks ago and decided to give it a second chance. I have been using it 2 a day regularly for around 2 weeks now and after a week or so I started noticing a difference, less swelling, less foot and leg pain and even my knee seems easier,
The heatwave was the real test and It passed with flying colours. No swollen ankles.....😁
well done on the weight loss SUgarbaby. You're putting me to shame. During the hot spell my eating habits went to pot so it's back to proper healthy eating now.Have a great day y'all.6 -
I will definitely have to look into the pros and cons of Airbnb Maman before we even considered it and would think about an agent too. I was listening to Chris Moyles the other morning and they were talking on the subject and a caller sent a message in saying that they rented their cottage to a couple and when they came back to check on them they found 26 people in the cottage with them! I was thinking about you as well when I read this article the other day as you mentioned Nobody's Child on here, I think.

I am also so glad the weather has cooled down. I started to feel very hot and uncomfortable about 4.30 in the afternoon yesterday and I could not sleep last night. The house still feels quite hot even though I have had all the upstairs windows open all night. My husband had trouble getting home from London yesterday as all the trains were delayed. I was surprised to learn that serious fire in Wennington was very close to where I used to live in east London. I hadn't even heard of that area before yesterday.
I got up early today as I had ordered something for my husband from Amazon and I wanted to get some air into the house too. I tried the "reverse hair washing" when you use conditioner first and then shampoo. I didn't notice much difference, but then my hair is more frizzy because of the heat anyway.
I'm about to go and vacuum as I have neglected that in the heat and then get back to my new book.2025 GOALS
