Welcome back! Sounds like you've been having a rotten time of it health wise, and work sounds like a massive pain in the backside! Hope you can whip them into shape this coming year xx5

Welcome back - I'd seen you posting on a few threads recently so was pleased you were okay.
You got through an extremely challenging year - well done. I'd get your DH to claim JSA as he's paid enough taxes but I also understand why he could be reluctant. Definitely be kinder to yourself moving forward. I think your DS has had a challenging time too - so has done well.
Hope 2024 is better for you all.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

www - happy new year to you all!
Went to bed around 1.30ish (?) but didn't drop off until gone 2.30 - played games after the curry (HM, with gorgeous HM bhajis, if I say so myself!) with Rick playing in the background from 11.30. Took a 10-15 min break to watch the fireworks - I thought last year's were better with all the drones, but it's still an impressive show!
I've spent part of today doing life/ financial admin - have discovered I've earned too much interest on my savings this year and will need to pay some tax!!! - ooops - I have taken my eye off the ball somewhat, this past year- 2 years. I mean, it's not a *bad* place to be - I can only pay the tax if I've earned too much interest in the first place, after all - it's just not a financially savvy place to be! I've just opened a new cash ISA to use up the rest of my ISA limit for this year to help a bit, and will do the same for DH later (I need one of his bank cards and he's asleep with his wallet on his pocket!) I could put some more in PBs for him, too. (I have the max amount in my name) I don't want to tie too much stuff up in places for too long as we will be taking out of the accounts each month until he gets a job (I don't earn enough to cover all expenses - I probably do if we cut back on things, but we're not doing that!)
DH hates the job centre/ signing on for JSA. They can never help him, anyway - they can't find suitable jobs for DS1 as a biochem graduate, let alone DH as a senior HR manager/ HR director. They (job centre) have admitted this in the past, so it is a frustrating box ticking exercise. I'm 99.5% sure he has full contributions (I do, so I can't see why he wouldn't), so that's not an incentive (I will check though) I'm trying to pull figures together for his tax return today, also. He has never completed one in his life but has had to do them for about 25 years - it's 'my' job - although he's rubbish at keeping info for me!
we are going to go through the house room by room this week and update the list of jobs to be done and assign them red/ yellow/ green codes - red = important/ urgent and/ or complicated/ possibly expensive. Green = quick/ easy/ cheap. Yellow somewhere in between! We should probably try and aim for a couple of green a month (at least) and a red one at least organised (eg a professional booked in) a quarter. There will be too many to complete in the year, but it would be good to make some real progress!
We also have sooo much food in! - this is always the case at this time of year. However, we are going to (mainly) eat the freezers/ cupboards this month (apparently - although DH went to the smkt by himself with 4 things on the list and spent Β£40, including money on v expensive meat (it was YS, but I wouldn't have bought it - we don't have any room!)) - so we shall see how that goes..... I hate food waste, so I suspect I may be on some weird combinations for lunches, just to make sure things don't go to waste!
