    Hello savers!

It's been a while as I've not been to my house and my pot as I've been staying at Nanna's to look after her but I had to pop home today and I had managed to gather a little haul of 8 £2 coins including a William Shakespeare special, taking my total to £154. I'm going to have to work a little harder if I want to reach my £200 target but I guess it means I've not been spending so much, although I did also have 20 £1 coins and 9 50ps for my other pots so quite chuffed with that little lot. Christmas is fast approaching and whatever I manage to pull together will make a big difference to the shopping!

Lots of love and luck to you all! xxx

I know where there is a £2 pretty just it was in my mum's purse & I hadn't the change or the patience to explain why I was eyeing it. Ah well, there is always the mercy of the post office to throw myself upon.
  • Good morning £2 savers!  Where have all the £2 coins gone?

Since my last post, I've only secured 7 x £2, and that was courtesy of me doing the scout banking.  Mr T self service are not paying out now and they used to do fairly well.  Even my corner shop - which usually comes up trumps for me - has had none at all.

Still, 7 is better than nothing so will get those potted with the others.  Oh and one was a special one - a 1st world war one.

    Happy potting everyone!

  • Another 2 for me today - thanks to my lovely corner shop when I finally ventured out after all that rain - and there's been an awful lot down here in West Cornwall.  At least we didn't get flooding like some parts of the country that I saw on the news.

Away from the weather, it's been a very good week for me.  On Monday, I found out my job has been regraded to the next grade up.  Will get the difference in salary back paid from April so although not a lot, I'm pleased that I'm now being paid for the work that I do.  I've been battling for 4 years to get this sorted but gathering all the evidence needed for my appeal was extremely time consuming.  It wasn't the money, it was the principal I was fighting for.  As I'm tee total, I had a nice cup of tea to celebrate  :).

I've also been troubled by my outgoings every month.  So, today, I shifted my small pots of money around and cashed in some more premium bonds so that I was able to pay off my one and only loan 5 months early.  I can reimburse my pots after pay day when my back pay arrives in my account - the premium bonds will take a bit longer but needed to be used!  I would have been tempted to use the money in my 'save 1p a day' and 'save £1 a day' challenge pots but luckily, these are sealed pots so at least I know I have that money to use for the festive season.  With costs going up on just about everything, every penny counts.  Paying the loan off early saved me £62 in total so that can go towards the electric now.  Such a weight off my shoulders that the loan has gone.  With prices seemingly increasing across the board, it was getting harder to have the money available every month for the repayments so my overdraft has also increased over the last year.  Need to get that sorted out and cleared next.

We've also been working hard to reduce our water bill.  5 years ago, our DD was £68.50 a month.  Hubby and I decided that every time we turned the tap on, we would imagine £1 coins coming out of the tap.  We've reduced our water bill gradually over those 5 years by using this method and, this week, we heard our new DD would be just £25.50.  Very chuffed with that!  Who knows, maybe we can get it down to £20 next year  :).

Hope you are all keeping safe and well.

  • £38 for me in October - only 1 pretty - a Shakespeare jester.

Well done claremylove on your success in decreasing your water bill and for paying off your loan early. The relief is massive when you can clear something like that.

My little win last month was finding out that my variable mortgage rate went up but my monthly pyment decreased!  This is because we have been making overpayments so the balnce has been chipped away at for many a year. Can't wait to finish it next year!
The downside to this though, is that British Gas have caught up with us and upped our monthly direct debit. I have tried so hard not to use my drier and resist the urge to put on the heating that this week I have given in! Having had a cheeky holiday in the sun for half term I have had washing coming out my ears! Most days I have pegged out but having a full maiden as well, I have just had to use the drier!
I had an appraisal too at work and have been recommended to move up a pay point as well as a pay increase, when it arrives. This wll be backdated to September.  I also think about how much I will get once the tax man, pension and NI have been taken out!
    Something is better than nothing!

    What's your little win?

  • Well my little win is that I fixed my mortgage rate just before everything took off - was very lucky that the last fixed rate finished at the right time.  Wasn't so lucky last time so been paying over the odds for a little while.  But at least I can afford for it to go up a bit now (I'm now on 3.48% for 10 years).  The nearest 10 year is now 5.73% so I'm quite relaxed.  Know exactly what I'm going to be paying so can budget accordingly.

Right, need to charge the laptop.  Have a good evening everyone!

  • 2 more at bingo on Sunday night - along with a decent cash win, and a packet of biscuits and tin of tuna in the raffle!  Both plain but that's fine.

    Hello savers!

How lovely to hear about your little wins! I was also delighted to be told yesterday that my colleagues and I are getting a pay increase backdated to April of this year, with the arrears coming in our December pay packet, so Merry Christmas to us! It's so nice to read of positive stories amongst all the bleakness and terrible tales you hear.

I've only managed to gather another 7 £2 coins but every little helps, and I did get a special little one in there, a St. Paul's Cathedral coin. That takes me to £168, still a way from my target but a little closer than I was!

Keep winning at life and keep sharing your stories! xxx

  • Oh that is good news CazzieLT.  My payrise could be in my November pay packet!  Just in time for Christmas.

Well done on another 7 coins, and there is still plenty of time to get your target.  The main thing is you have quite a total already saved and we still have another 52 days to go before 31 December, so anything can happen before then  :)
