maryb said:As I have mentioned I am treating this year as 1939 and stocking up on good quality clothes while they are still available and affordable. I have lost a significant amount of weight and there is rarely anything I would buy in our local charity shops (which seem to have mostly fast fashion tat which they charge more for than when it was new). Yesterday I bought a new Barbour jacket in John Lewis as they were doing a promotion - 30% off! You very rarely get offers on the classic jackets let alone one so generous. I bought it with an eye to it being sustainable - you can rewax them and send them back to be patched - and classic. I expect it to last me for 20 years which is what my old one clocked up. At my age that should see me out!
Hope the new Barbour lives up to your expectations. Sounds like you got a bargain. My current Barbour, which isn’t the classic waxed design, has clocked up 10 years and counting. It’s warm, waterproof and gets worn almost every weekend. (The label says it’s a “Ladies Mooring Jacket”.). Given that it’s tipping down right now, and I have to head off by bus to meet DH later, it’s going to get another workout.

Shein are, most definitely, ‘problematic’ as a manufacturer.Whilst cruising the Oxfam book shop (a dangerously seductive place) yesterday post haircut I found this book for a bargain £1.99 (rather than The Big River’s inflated price) It looks like a very interesting read.✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

I looked it up online too.
The stub I found didn't have enough to give the flavour of the whole book, so I'd be interested to know how people find it.

Another 6 coupons gone = another 3m of cotton jersey! I'm packing my summer stuff away now & realised my t-shirts are looking very tired. Rather than scout the charity shops, I thought I'd make myself some; it's not easy to find patterned t-shirts at the best of times, and certainly not when they're "out of season". And plain ones never last long, sadly, due to my shape - I should probably wear an apron whilst cooking & a bib when eating! Anyway, found some nice fabric online, so will have a play with that.Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)7

Very peculiar Pip. I’ve read the first chapter and have found out more about crape and John Lewis than I did before.

My latest fash-ration buys -
I don't buy many clothes but when i do they have to go with everything else i already own - if it can't it doesn't get bought.
A white cheesecloth summer top (£3 on Ebay) and a grey marl, 6 ply, cashmere cardigan/jacket (£60 from Nearly New Cashmere) , soft, thick and heavy 😍

I'm looking forward to seeing your created ones 😊👍7 -
Wait - what? ‘Nearly New Cashmere’? There’s a company that sells second hand cashmere? Curse you, @[Deleted User], you’ve just ruined my ‘Wardrobe’ budget! 🤣 honestly I never knew. And I was just about to jump on here and exclaim about my ‘bargain’ £24.99 red cashmere sweater from AgeUk! Actually I still think it was a bargain.Your cardigan looks lovely. I’m like you, when buying anything new it has to go with at least three things that I already own, and be suitable for at least three occasions.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. The site is worth looking at, they have some good things !
And Ebay - always worth scouring for cashmere items.
Incidently, NNC will also trade-in your old/unwanted items from you.8
