The declining quality of the M&S offerings are exactly why I decided to learn to make my own, @2Scratters. I'm lucky to already own the necessary equipment, i.e overlocker & sewing machine, though it can be done just with the machine or even by hand-stitching, just slower. What really narked me was when the last set of M&S ones started to "die" before the previous set, a couple of years older. Oddly, the cost had not gone down, but up!

Pip, I took note of what you and Laura said when I first joined about buying the best wool that I can afford - high wool content - won't sag. 

Alas, I am not as lucky as others on this challenge, I do not have a stash of wool that I can draw from, so everything that I make has to be bought and couponed. 

I have a question ... T0ft do an offer of buy five balls get one free. Does the free ball need to be couponed? I have counted it so far, but just wanted to check.

And therein lies the reason I started doing the challenge in the first place:  I needed an incentive to put the brakes on.  All my stash dates from the last 20 years.  (There was a point, at the end of the 1990’s, when I didn’t knit at all for several years.).  It is 90% due to going to yarn shows, seeing “the good stuff” and giving in to temptation.  The other 10% are purchases while on holiday, mainly in New Zealand in 2018.

Re T0ft, I’m sorry to say that the 6th ball does count.  However, remember when you are totting things up that the coupon cost is 1 coupon per 50g. Toft’s thinner yarn is in 25g balls, so 2 balls per coupon.

Have finished making a tortoise for my youngest nephew and a hot water bottle cover for my Dad - both have birthdays pending. 

I am now starting a winter/autumn poncho, mushroom in colour. Wool has already been accounted for. I can do the first part - roll neck by myself but will need help understanding the main part. Luckily, I am spending lots of quality time with experienced crocheters over the next three weeks. Wish me luck.

I dont have enough skill to get a wool obsession, and I've been granny squaring a load handed off to me years ago from a friend's stash. But now I need to block and join, and my mojo has gone

Been away the weekend at a belated spa night treat for my mum with my sisters. There was A LOT of talking. No purchases. I am still unhappy with my weight, and big enough that I have smaller things I wouldn't need to replace. I am not finding this difficult at all, but if I lose a couple of stone I will do!

A coupon spend OH MY! 12 big ones too.

Dungarees, boilersuits and jumpsuits have become my latest hyperfixation and I now have 14 pairs - HOWEVER I have only purchased two from new. All the rest have come from secondhand resale from ebay and a preloved group i'm a part of.

These two arrived yesterday and I am besotted with the patterns.

Thanks @CAFCGirl for the Jambats link. The current patterns aren't for me, but I would love a pair of dungarees so I'm looking forward to seeing what new styles they release
