There is also Turtle Doves who use recycled cashmere and once a year they have a trade in and you get a free pair of fingerless gloves. They are a fab item to have. I have a penchant for cashmere items. This is mainly due to me having enough of my own bulk
I also have 3 cashmere, angora and wool mix coats and I feel so special when I wear them, they are really warm. They were all purchased pre owned too.

Bear in mind that there is cashmere and there is cashmere... if it's been short-chopped in the modern cheap process then cashmere is no warmer than ordinary wool and in some cases much less warm and even less soft than properly-processed modern wool.
If you can get your hands on vintage cashmere, or seconds of the high-end traditionally-processed cashmere then grab that with both hands, but otherwise, you may find that your bargain cashmere lasts a surprisingly short time or is oddly itchy once the sales-gunk wears off or isn't actually very warm...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:
January (29): winter boots, green trainers, canvas swimming-shoes (15); t-shirt x2 (8); 3m cotton twill (6);
.
2025 second-hand acquisitions (no coupons): None thus far
.
2025 needlework- *Reverse-couponing*:11 coupons :
January: teddybear-lined velvet jacket (11) & hat (0); velvet sleep-mask (0);7 -
I do actually have 2 vintage jumpers that were my mothers and the difference is immense. I am going down the route of treating myself at some point of purchasing a traditional cashmere top (not sure what I would go for at this stage). I'll let you know when that happens.Anything is better than nothing-check back and see

Vintage cashmere is great because the quality was very good.
Sample sales, from manufacturers, is usually good.
Cashmere that is ever anything other than soft and caressing isn't a good buy and shouldn't be itchy or scratchy.
I have cashmere pieces from 20+ years ago that is still in great condition and that's how it should be, once bought you should never need to buy it again because the quality dictates it.
For new items, there is shop, on the Etsy subforum called NamasteLondonCrafts, their single ply scarves are good value at £24.99 with free delivery.6 -
Evening all, sorry I’ve been MIA. Can I pull up a chair even though I’m in Greece. Have taken my mum who is 80 away to Greece for a week to get some sun before the winter well and truly sets in and she moves from our family home to something smaller.
walking through the Greek village where we are staying has been a nightmare with the shops having sales on given it’s the last week of the season. The smell of the leather in handbag shop was divine. I did manage to stop myself and haven’t spent any coupons….. yet 🤣! Loving the thread on cashmere. I’ve only ever owned one jumper with a small amount of cashmere in it and my DH managed to make felt out of it….🙄
also loved the tip about the neat vodka… I have some here but unfortunately it seems to be evaporating out of the bottle very quickly!
back to porridge on the weekend but for now I’m going to soak up as much VIt D as I can!22 coupons until 2023

Enjoy your trip @white-rabbit_2-2 . Remember, if you find something that is "perfect" and "goes with everything", and you can afford it, buy it. Just don't waste your money on something that "will do" but never does.

Wise words @PipneyJane don't buy cheap as a knee-jerk reaction - it's often not good value for money - right across the board !

Sometimes, you have to give people permission to spend their own money on themselves.

Good evening all
I’ve just been listening another fascinating podcast episode about clothes and thought you might want to catch it. This one is from BBC Scotland and is an episode of Clever About Cash. The episode is called “How to create a waste free wardrobe” and the blurb:
“ Whilst fast fashion is an easy and affordable choice for many, pre-loved clothing is enjoying a moment in the spotlight – ITV’s reality show Love Island even had a second-hand fashion partnership this summer. So how else can we save on our wardrobes, whilst being environmentally-friendly? Kim and Eileen chat to last year’s Great British Sewing Bee winner Serena Baker and Love Islander Jay Younger to discuss easy upcycling, the joys of charity shopping and how to avoid greenwashing when investing in clothes. They are joined by an audience in the Spiegeltent at the BBC’s Festivals site in Edinburgh who share their favourite ways to save money on fashion. Kim and Eileen also meet Joyce Reid in Dundee at The Wardrobe – a charity shop with a difference, and Claire D’All and Luke Murphy discuss tips that could help shops become more accessible for disabled consumers.”
Tell you what, I’ll play it on the wireless in the Village Hall.
