That post box topper is AMAZING!! Well done to you both in creating such a thing. I'm awed.
In other news, the duvet cover was still there. I almost felt guilty paying just £2 for a brand new duvet cover in its packaging.
As a sewing no-bie (I can't even say newbie, it's just always a no as soon as something inevitably simple goes wrong for me - like threading it!).... Am I better washing it first, then ironing it and cutting it? My plan was just to cut the seams off rather than unpicking them.Wealth is not measured by currency7 -
@CAFCGirl, I would wash the duvet-cover first, and dry it as you'd intend to dry the finished thing ie tumble-dry or line-0dry or whatever, and iron only if necessary. I love duvet-covers for clothes-fabric - designed to be machine-washed and tumble-dried and not to fade and not to need much, if any, ironing...
I made this skirt on Thursday (much to my surprise!) and wore it todayDuvet cover...

I think that top is knitted - it looks to me like feather and fan with one purl row in the 4-row repeat
Like this which I just found by googling

Thank you @CAFCGirl. I've never done anything like it before so I was mighty pleased when it fit!
Good to see you getting out and about @Laura_Elsewhere
I didn't think the top was crocheted either. My late MIL knitted lots of feather and fan, so that's what I first thought of too. The stitches didn't look right for how a crochet stitch lies either.
Lovely skirt too!2025 Fashion on the ration

@MrsCD that topper is amazing. Looks great!
@Laura_Elsewhere and MrsCD - I agree. That top is knitted. Thanks Laura for finding such a close example. (Also, great skirt.)

Hi all, re the top I stand corrected, it looked like a crochet ripple stitch to me, sorry I can't download a picture, but as you all know I am not an experienced knitter and if I were to make something like that I would crochet rather than knit it
The post box topper is amazing, do you make others or is that a one off for Queenie day?
Love the skirt Laura
Take care everyone7 -
Yes, I agree, it does look a bit like crochet ripple stitch.
The post box topper is the first I've ever made, with my friend, but she makes things for charity, and friends and family all the time.
I've lost count of how many nativity sets she's asked me to crochet wings for, and last I heard she was making a farmyard, with fields, veg and animals.
I don't think it will become a regular thing, making post box toppers, as they are so big and it takes a lot of yarn to make them.2025 Fashion on the ration

Love the post box topper and skirt. Well done ladies, it has given me some food for thought about material patterns to look for. I will keep you updated. Been off the point for a while but still keeping up with you all. That sewing machine is behaving badly at hide and seek, it has become embedded in the wardrobe cupboard.
