Oh, ok.
I did Treasure Trap at Liverpool, wondered if you were there. I think the society folded after the secretary absconded with all the money, after my time though2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

I spent some time this morning searching through my large tin of buttons. Who else has one of those? Who else has happy memories of looking through their mum's or their grannies' button collections and sorting them? I found 5 new steel-coloured metal buttons to replace the cheap plastic ones on the cardigan I've just mended. In WW2, replacing buttons with something different was one of the things that was suggested as part of MD&M to make a garment look more interesting. I think it'll work with my cardie.9

My mum, even though she made quite a few of our childhood clothes and is completely competent at sewing, and for that matter made my sister's "full meringue" silk wedding dress with four-foot train, and my ghastly sickly-peach silk bridesemaid's-dress, never had a button tin....!
Luckily, my Gran did and I inherited it, a flat large wooden box dating from just after the War, with tobacco tins from Grandaddy's pipe-smoking, and all kinds of buttons...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

For the first ever today I found yarn in a charity shop. I didn't get any as I wasn't keen on the colours but I did get some patterns for 50p each8

I’ve inherited my mum’s button collection. I’ve moved it into a different box but it’s always useful to rummage through. My Gran had a button tin. I remember the little shoe buttons which I found really cute and odd because back in the 1980s they weren't really a thing. I acquired someone else's button tin when I bought a wooden sewing box with a hinged lid (similar design to an old tea trolley (bottom shelf but box with hinged lid with shallow drawer below the right size for bobbins etc. at the top instead of the top shelf and on casters)) including the contents. I've been through the button tin trying to group similar buttons together so that I can see what I've got more easily and hopefully will be able to use some of them. There are a few that are really nice and would look great on the right garment / project. Reminds me that I need to take some things that I won't use to my MILs for her sewing group.

Good morning All
Just popping into the village hall because I need a cup of tea and a refuge. I'll be over there cuddling the cat, if you need me.
Work has got to me. We've just past the first month-iversary of migrating to Group's systems and nothing is working properly. Everyone is disheartened and fed up of not being able to do the simplest things without going through a 25-stage palaver first. We keep telling each other that things will get better and that, in 6 months time, everything will feel normal and natural, but I worry that's not true.
- Pip (thank you for letting me moan.)"Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'
It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!

Pull up a chair, Pip, and somebody pass the biscuit tin round! It's so unsettling isn't it; we spend such a large part of our life at work and when it's not running smoothly it has an impact on everything. It's probably true that in six months' time it will all be 'normal' but that's not much consolation at the moment. My mum had a wonderful button tin, that was a favourite rainy day playtime for me, sorting through them; making patterns with them, finding odd things like regimental cap badges and my grandad's 'dog tag' from WWI - where did they all go? I have no idea, my sister has one of the tins but I don't know what happened to the buttons. I have my own button tin now, far too many and I never seem to have the right thing to use on a garment.I have to own up to two pairs of shoes*; I've bought more wardrobe items in the last few weeks than in the previous couple of years, although there's an obvious reason why spending was so low! I also bought a denim jacket, a skirt, pair of chinos and a black top for choir but they were all second-hand and so coupon-free. I'll have to do a tot-up to see where I am with coupons.(*The shoes were H*tter, buy one get one half-price and as I have so much trouble getting comfortable shoes, it was worth it. Two pairs that I never actually wear are going out to make room).Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.6

Pip - You have my sympathy with the computer system. I've been there. In our case we had one imposed on us which was designed by the company in another country. It may have fitted their systems but didn't fit ours at all hence it was practically impossible to use it! Sending a big hug.Polly - know your pain with finding comfy shoes. Like you I make the most when there is an offer on as they are few and far between for me.2024 Fashion on the Ration - 3.5/66.5 coupons remaining1 cardigan - 5 coupons13 prs ankle socks - 13 coupons5 prs leggings - 10 coupons4 prs dungarees - 24 coupons1 cord jacket - 11 couponstotal 63 coupons5
