😍 today my Mum presented me with a cardigan she had knitted me, this has made me so happy, many years ago she made it clear she was going not knit clothes for adults except herself. I had admired a cardigan she had designed and knitted for one of the grandchildren and said how I wish I had one, a few weeks later GC was wearing it and I mentioned again how fantastic it was and how I would love my own, she asked if I was serious, which I was, that was the last I heard of it until today. It is fantastic and made with so much love, mine isn't identical to GC but has been inspired by theirs, both have hoods and toggles.
The cardigan from your Mum sounds absolutely lovely, you lucky thing! I have a hooded cardigan that I wear a lot and it's an old friend. Extra nice when yours is made specially for you by your Mum.
I have some spending to declare, 2 tops (5 coupons each) and a dress (7 coupons) all preloved, I will use last year's coupons. 17 coupons used 39/66 coupons remaining.

I'm sure it will be a treasured item for many many years. 😊
The time, though, is going to be far more. Minimum Wage for an adult is currently £9.50, so that would cover just over six hours of basic unskilled work.
Time to knit a cardigan? Oooh, call it 60 hours, and that's cutting it very fine imo, for my large size.
So that's either a quid per hour to equal the wool-cost, or else the time is going to cost about £360, and that's only charging the basic minimum...

florianatwobob said:@Baileys_Babe I must admit to a tiny bit of envy re your cardi. My mum crocheted me, when I was 7 or 8, the most wonderfully warm, snuggly cardi out of end of line balls of wool (she worked in a wool shop for a while). I was less than impressed when I outgrew it and it was passed on to my younger cousins. Not that I’m still slightly grumpy about this 35/36 years later…….😉Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

16/61 is useful thanks Laura, I’ll add that to the rough and ready conversions.
less accurate but useful as a ball park is 25 is 75 and 28 is 82It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!4 -
@Cherryfudge I still have some
of the yarn from the wool shop, I’ve yet to work out what to do with it. It’s a rather jazzy red 80s yarn but only 5 balls and ideally I need to do something for my sister and me with it. Mum had a lovely time working there until the lady sold up and moved to Doncaster.@Baileys_Babe Mum did knit me a maroon school cardi (which I also loved) when I was a little bit older and grew with me for a few years.✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

That’s fascinating info @Laura_Elsewhere and makes sense re looser weaves. I was in Morocco and took lighter woven fabric clothes and was remarkably cool even at the hottest point of the day.✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

Wraithlady - Peter Pan collars aren't my favourite on a dress either. I don't think they really suit me, so completely with you on that. :-) When I was a student there was a LARP group called Treasure Trap. I knew some students in it. It sounded mad but fun. :-)

Hi all, today I was gifted an absolute treasure. You may remember my talking about my dear friend who died of leukaemia last year. She was a quilter and before she got too ill but was aware she was not going to recover she gifted a mutual friend a lot of her fabric stash. In amongst it all was a mostly finished table runner. The mutual friend has backed it and added a border and gifted the completed article to me. I nearly cried when I saw it as the colours are typically 'her'. The mutual friend has also added a little fabric note on the back saying who has done what. It is something I will always treasure, not just because it is beautiful but for the memory of my dear friend and the kindness of the friend who spent the time completing it and knowing I would love it
Talking of Mums knitting I am lucky enough to have 2 aran jumpers and an aran cardigan made for me by my Mum. She always knitted my school jumpers for me as well. First aran jumpers must be about 30 years old now and still going strong
On the subject of linen it is one of my favourite fabrics and I have a couple of pairs of linen trousers and a couple of linen tops, non of which I paid a lot of money for but they are also quite old now. It really is amazing how well they last if you can find pure linen but it does seem to be quite a rare find these days.
Take care everyone10 -
