Something that might help people on the being weighed at the surgery thing - firstly there are surprisingly few reasons for them to actually “need” to weigh you, it’s often purely a box that they are expected to fill, and you are asked to “just hop onto the scales” as reflex. You can perfectly well in most cases decline, and certainly ask why they need your weight - it might be for medication dosing for example, which is legitimate, but it might be unrelated to why you’ve gone in - in which case a simple “no thanks, I can’t imagine why my weight would be relevant to the ingrowing toenail I’ve come in about” said with a smile for example. If you do need to be weighed, and they have given you good reason, then you can ask that you step on the scale backwards or sideways and they then don’t tell you the numbers - you can explain that you’ve had issues around scales and disordered eating in the past, although you don’t need to give a reason and they are supposed to respect your request. I’ve found that initially they’re surprised, but once they get used to the idea you get treated surprisingly respectfully unless the GP involved is totally bought into weight stigma, in which case you’d do better changing anyway. 😉
Different subject - be cautious about running shoes for walking- the movement and impact is VERY different, and the structure of the shoe ideally should be different as well. That said, running shoes which have reached their maximum mileage for running in are often really good for walking in my experience as the running gait specific structure has mostly gone, but they still tend to be quite supportive for the feet.

I hadn't realised that about the trainers - thank you! I thought that they would be similar. I shall restart my hunt again. - Just googled it and found some articles about walking shoes for heavy people - thank you"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Hey @jwil I got some Really good new trainers on EBay. I researched the internet as to what would be best for me then just found them for £20 on eBay! They are bright pink but it’s all good!
You’ve had lots of lovely advice re weight loss, for me it’s all about building good habits, starting off slowly rather than trying to change everything in a day and inadvertently falling off the wagon in 2 days. Baby steps and a little at a time x3 -
It's also possible to lace trainers differently to prevent certain injuries or provide more support. articles from runners world would explain this better!
Good luck in finding the right pair. I spent years in the same brand/range of asics which were fab for me but my feet seemed to changed shape after my twins pregnancy and I have never found the perfect pair since then!Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Good point from @NeverendingDMP regarding how trainers are laced . I was shown many years ago from previous PT .
Looking for new footwear can be sole destroying . Still you're putting your best foot forward . Onwards and upwards etc 😼2 -

Thank you! Good thinking about finding what I want and then looking on eBay. I hadn't considered that! I am trying on the creating new habits thing - definitely the way for me, and why I need to step away from the scales as it won't be quick.NeverendingDMP said:It's also possible to lace trainers differently to prevent certain injuries or provide more support. articles from runners world would explain this better!

Oh my goodness, I have so much to learn! I would never have considered that the way they are laced would make a difference. Thank you!another_casualty said:Good point from @NeverendingDMP regarding how trainers are laced . I was shown many years ago from previous PT .
