It will be nice when the evening meetings are over
NeverendingDMP said:Good news on the mortgage front. We last fixed a couple of years ago but that rate sounds good to me all things considered. Especially if you know you have it set in stone for 10 years. Good luck with the overpayingI've been on a tracker for years so benefited from rates going down, but it's nice to have the certainty now.

7 parcels away & a great 10 year fix.
WoohooIt's nice to make a bit of progress!
SusieT said:That is a very good dayI did a long fix and rolled secured loans into the mortgage before the interest changes started to hit (although I know they will have been priced in). I saved a lot on interest and am going to overpay as much and early as possible since the interest saved will really add up and reduce the term.
It will be really good for you to know there is a set payment and that at the end of it you will either be mortgage free or very very close to itThat's great that you've managed to save loads of interest by getting in early, and even more by making overpayments.

Thank youanother_casualty said:All good stuff @jwil😼
Regarding fleabay , do you accept PayPal ? They're trying to phase that out from what I remember ..
Thank youI do accept paypal, but I'm on eBay managed payments now, so all the money comes through there. People can still pay by paypal and it's still how I pay when I buy something. It works out ok, as they send the money straight to the bank account very quickly. I get it sent to a separate bank account so it's not linked to my main one.
EssexHebridean said:I think that's a very sensible decision on the mortgage - interest rates are only going in one direction right now, and assuming that those who know about this stuff and reckon these things generally go in rough 10 year cycles are correct, it will be a while before they'll be reversing the trend, so you ay well find yourself in 5 years or so with an absolute stormer of a rate.
Thank youI read somewhere that they think rates will go up several times this year, and it's probably going to be bad for a while, even if overall they don't get really high. I could have got a lower rate if I'd gone for a shorter fix, but I was worried we'd have a shock at the end of it. If SVR is 4% by the end of the deal, taking into account the 14 years left on the mortgage, the overall cost was cheaper for the 10 year fix than the shorter fixes. In the event that rates did go down again, I wouldn't be on so high a rate that it would annoy me

Well done on your mortgage fix. I remember in the mid 1980s we were paying 15% on a semi commercial mortgage. Best day ever when we paid of our last mortgage.

I'm shattered. Work has been so busy. Evening meetings over now thankfully! It was a very long day yesterday.
Hopefully DH and I will watch the final two episodes of Reacher tonight. We've enjoyed it, and the Reacher character is much more like in the books.
We had the letter confirming the new mortgage rate today so that's all gone through fine. Nothing much else to report really!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee3 -
Well done on the fix. Good luck with clearing it within the time. I went for 5 when I did it as I may move / downsize at some point. I do like the cost certaintyAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

It certainly is. Much less stress knowing that if things go wrong it will still be ours well unless we need care then it will no doubt have to go.

I am so tired! It's probably the thought of doing social activities this weekend
It's been a long week and very long work days which hasn't helped. Hopefully I'll manage to have a quieter one next week.
DH is taking the kids to see their uncle tomorrow, whilst I'm off to London to see Phantom of the OperaIt will be fab, even if I am filled with horror about actually being on a train and in a theatre
Meeting friends on Sunday who we haven't seen for ages so that will be nice too.
I've had a spendy week this week, little miss has needed new school uniform and shoes, little jwil needed new PE trousers. Little jwil also needed a costume for dressing up at school next week. I've managed just to get him some trousers which he can wear normally, a cloak and we'll sort out the rest from stuff we already have. Little miss's damaged tooth fell out (hurrah!), so the tooth fairy needed to visit again. Little jwil has two birthday parties to go to, and I've bought his birthday gifts. So much for having a lean month! I've still got my Mum's birthday to get something for as well, and whatever we spend tomorrow.
Have a good one everyone"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee5 -
we we have the last two episodes of reacher left here, we’ve been saving them 😁 I was happy to see season 2 has been agreed. So many books for them to get through…and as it’s been a while since I read the early ones I didn’t get grouchy about any changes as I couldn’t remember exactly what happened! He’s a strapping chap isn’t he 😬Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

I'm glad season 2 has been agreed. He's definitely a strapping chap. I admire anyone who can put that sort of work in!
