Love reading about your FI plans. Sounds like you are pretty well on track.

Well done on the PADs too.

Is the car payment earmarked for anything special?
Thank you.  It's comforting to know there's enough there for a basic standard of living, and everything I do now adds to that.
The car money is DH's so it will probably be put in savings.  I think he'll use some towards the work on the house.

It's electrician day today, I really hope he turns up!

I've been up early to start the big move around to try and ensure there is access to all the sockets.  I actually dreamt last night that when we emptied the under the stair cupboard, there was a whole new room in there :D:D:D   Sadly there doesn't appear to be.

I think downstairs is sorted now, just need to hoover, finish cleaning the kitchen and clean the floor.  I need to do upstairs too but that's not a big job as there's only one socket in each room.  I don't know how much space he'll need so he might not be able to test all of them, but hopefully he can get to most without any difficulty.

This would be so much easier without the stuff!

Glad the car sold. Thats something else out ot your way. We both had to retire early due to health problems which has certainly had an effect on our pensions so the longer you can keep going the better financially speaking.
Well down on the weight loss. Slow and steady is best.

@jwil dreams about new rooms in your house are I've heard about growing in new directions, opening up potential.   It all sounds very exciting.   I'm aiming to reverse type 2 diabetes and am hoping that my blood test on Friday will show I'm there or as near as d*mmit when I get the results in November.   I've also been reading the ZOE material and have joined the waiting list for the app.  Like you, I'm eating in a 10 hour period; I was also reading on ZOE that in Dr S's view too much weight is put by many doctors on BMI when it's just one factor.   I too am having thoughts about prioritising health and am walking or swimming for at least an hour most days.  It's helping me to feel positive as well as manage the diabetes down.  Loving your journey and so grateful to be able to read and make even a small contribution.   Onwards and upwards love Humdinger xx

Thank you :)  Just got to hope that it all goes through ok at the weekend.  It will be great to see it gone!
Yes, retiring based on what is there now is livable, but there wouldn't be much to spare, so I definitely want to not take it for as long as possible.  It just makes me feel happy knowing that I 'could', if that makes any sense!

Ooh, that sounds fab about the dream, I can but hope!

Good luck for your test on Friday, let us know how you get on.  I hope you've managed to reverse it!  I fear I may have backslid some of my progress over the last couple of weeks, I must pick it up again.  That's brilliant that you are exercising for an hour a day.  It's the one thing I need to focus on more.  I've been doing a lot more but again, the last couple of weeks things have slipped.  My GP for sure doesn't seem to see past my weight.  It's frustrating.  I find the zoe work so interesting.

Well the good news is the electrician turned up on time and has done the test of the system.  The bad news is there's some work that needs to be done before he can change the consumer units, and even worse news is that although he can certify it now, the wiring is starting to degrade and it might not be in good condition in 5 years time.  So if we are going to do the work, to my mind we are better off doing the whole lot now.  Just a) how do we pay for it, and b)  the stuff!!!

I've asked for a quote to do the two bedrooms rooms and anything he needs to do below (i.e. anything that would need to be accessed through the floorboards in those rooms).  I guess we'll just have to see.

  • Just caught up. Your longer term plans sound good. I hear you on the being healthy enough to enjoy retirement plans. Me too. It something I am mindful of due to the early deaths of family over the past few years. The great thing about MSE folk is we know how to live well with less and you in particular show it can be done with great flair.

Yesterday afternoon we had a great visit to see the See Monster in Weston Super Mare.  It was fantastic, and I'm so glad we managed to get there.  Amazing views too!

Today it's my course, little miss is going to a friends for a bit, and both kids have got swimming tonight.  It will be nice not to have to do swimming lessons at the weekend any more!
