I read the pound a day book when it was published. I found the title rasther misleading as a lot of the time she made use of other prople to provide various things. I found an old book Round about a pound a week about a study of poor families long ago which Identified one woman on a similar low income to the others in the area who fed her children well , didn't waste precious funds paying in to a burial fund every week for her children likely to die in childhood as was common in the area. that woman had The Knowledge and that made all the difference.Think it was Maud Pember Reeves who wrote the book about the study by local ladies in to poverty.pollyIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Childhood connection
did your parents have clutter.
were you taught to clean
were you called messy or lazy as a child?Think of how this affects your current home
then think
As an adult ,I’m in control of my own life
I'm not my parents
I'm no longer a child
i have the ability to change
I'm not messy
i am amazing
Finding your “why”
Think about something in your home that it would be hard to get rid of, even though you don’t particularly like or use it
Why are you reluctant to let go?
does it feel wasteful to get rid of something not rubbish? Do you worry you will need to spend money to replace it one day?
do you feel guilty because it was a gift?
try writing down
an item that WOULD be hard for me to let go is......
Its hard for me to let go because...
getting rid of it makes me anxious because...

I think mine, after reading the book, decluterring at the speed of life, was giving myself permission to get rid of things without feeling I had to sell them or make some money off them because that was not the ethos I was brought up with.

Thankyou @EnergyShifter. I also got them some no caller stickers.
Sorry to hear about your MiL @vulpix.
Thankyou for your kind words @Mrs_stinkface
@stellata: it sounds like you are overwhelmed. Great advice here re strategies to get started. Mine are are to write a list (or not) of things to do, declutter a few mins at a time or do one thing e.g. a hotspot. You have already done several boxes. That is still several boxes done. Big hugs
So I did get some things done yesterday. One frog and a trip to the allotment where I had great therapy tearing down a fence and digging a shallow ditch.
Later DH and I emptied the car from Sunday and I have now checked through the clothes and rebagged for the CS and Refugees. I will load them into the car in a bit and drop off on the way to a coffee with a friend this afternoon.
Before I go I want to get info sheets written out in case SiL or her husband are admitted to hospital with their medical history, meds and permission for DH or myself to speak to the hospital about medical things. This is an attempt to declutter future anxiety as the episode last year was a shambles.
In the same vein I did a financial healthcheck with them on Sunday and that is going to be written up and printed too so they can see where their money is going.
Finally today I hope to do some prep for a new fence and the hard standing I am doing on the plot for my bench.
Right, signing off as I need toget started. :

have been struggling (because I have debts) on letting go mountains of clothes to charity shops when I could sell them. But I think clearing the clutter is going to be more valuable to me. In the long run.

If you are at the point of thinking paying someone to help you declutter might be worthwhile… then doing it yourself but give it all away for free will still be cheaper!
I had to be honest with myself… I hated listing things on fleabay, especially when someone moany didn’t look at the photos or measurements and then moaned. My stress levels are worth far more than that bit of money.
sorry to not be keeping up with the thread… trying to declutter distractions and use my electronic devices a little less.
At the weekend took a bag with baking books, jeans, tops, various bits to charity shop.Decluttered some more teas. It’s working well for me having just picked out a few to compare with each other… have two similar flavoured ones, and definitely prefer one over the other so will reuse that tin for the one I prefer
decluttered a load of screenshots from my iPad and some apps from my mobile phone too. Unsubscribed from some emails and moved all apps away from the main Home Screen on both devices so I have to actively go find the time wasting things!Doing this challenge in case anyone is interested. https://courses.bemorewithless.com/less-phone-more-life-challenge/resources/#day1working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?13 -
