Settling into being back in the UK . Really missing the sun & the pool - not missing the hills ! I have only got a couple of work days booked in next week - I kept the other days free because DS' Dad is over and its a good opportunity for me to get away. I had in the back of my mind that I might go away to the Coast for a few days but I'm not sure how much I fancy that now the weather has changed.
DS & I went for a walk up in Town along the South Bank and over Westminster Bridge - since we were near there we took a detour to St James' Park and the Mall - There were a lot of people there but not quite as many as I'd imagined - I expect there will be many more today. The most striking thing was the long line of white gazebos lining Hyde Park that was a kind of village for the reporters. All of them being filmed reporting with their backs to the Palace. All very tastefully done with lowered Union Jacks.
Going for lunch with DS & his Dad today but have the afternoon free as they will go off and do their thing. I have some studying I need to do. Tomorrow I am going to the Coast for the day to celebrate my Cousin's 50th Birthday.

Hi
Mrs SD, you do chat to strangers. Us lot! And you do a magnificent job by acknowledging every post with grace. Thank you. X
Fingers crossed for you Mhagster.DSS coming when he has fitted a wishbone and a fuel line to his cousins car to get it through an MOT. Says it will only take an hour. Clever chap. The handy D I Y gene is definitely not inherited from Mr V. 😂
I had all my craft stuff out last night. Packed it neater and looked out things for my next few projects. Sashiko quilt, some knitted slippers and scraps for a beach hut fabric picture that we are all going to do at craft club. I’m not interested in making a beach hut picture but don’t want to be churlish 😂. I love making stuff and have had a project constantly on the go since I was a teenager but I don’t want my house cluttered up with my creations. I make stuff for me that I actually want or give what I produce away. I am strange (well you all know that) in that I don’t generally buy a kit. I make my own ideas. I am formulating an idea to make DD1 a quilt from old velvet curtains. We are not carbooting tomorrow. When I looked at my Mum’s we don’t have enough stuff.DD1 is coming down at the end of the month. We will spring clean and have a good sort out for my Mum. I am hoping several trips to the chazzer will be on the cards. The’ kids’ have all got stuff stored at my Mum’s. They have all got a house. !!!!! Actually there is stuff of my brothers waiting to go since the 80’s. Hmm a theme here isn’t there. I need to form a plan.Thank you for allowing me to organise my thoughts on here folks.Vx:8 -
Just no time in my head to do decluttering at the moment as work is really busy and requires brain power. I do keep thinking about the library (and ignoring the tip that is appearing in the rest of the house now I’m busy) as I am sat in there working most the time. I have decided to work through the last 5/6 biros and then I have a nice refillable one I can use when I can’t use pencil. I generally use recycled newspaper pencils and have an antique (cheap though) pencil extender to use it down right to the end and the shavings go in the compost.
I have so much one sided paper it’s unreal. It’s all from my parents/DH over the years as I didn’t want to waste it. Hopefully DD will get into drawing and help me get it down, but in the meantime to stop me losing my work notes, I picked out 25 pages, ripped them into quarters, cut up a cardboard box I didn’t need into two pieces the same size, hole punched through them all, covered the cardboard in brown packing paper from a delivery I had and then tied it together with string from a clothes label. I even put a couple of the kids stickers on the front. Voilà I have a notebook. Nothing was wasted and even better is that when I’ve finished it, I can take the pages out and put new ones in!2025 decluttering: 4,019 🌟🥉🌟💐🏅🏅🌟🥈🏅🌟🏅💐💎🌟🏅🏆🌟🏅🌟

@QueenJess , love your note books and the idea of a pencil extender - never seen one - can you take a pic as there may be one at my dad's - there is everything else. I have a vast supply of one sided paper, new side to me, and have taken more from my dad's - I use bull dog clips and have a vast supply of these too. Going to read back but couldn't resist replying to your post

Mrs SD, it will be covering everything option for the decorator although I did tidy my bedroom which was sorted a few weeks ago but gradually became a place of doom, not perfect now but presentable enough for me! Took my dad's heaters, TV, freeview thing, incontinence stuff, lots of jars for the food bank /refugee cente yesterday which was great, they only usually take on a sunday so was nice of them to let me drop them. Some shredding - mum's bank statement and receipts - including mothercare 2001 which must have been for DD1 and my nephew and her power of attorney etc- (she died in 2010) but something I can bring back to my house and sort.
Had hopes of DD2 helping tomorrow as her football cancelled along with many other things but she's still on her way back from a uni visit, having got up at 5am as her and friend booked the v v slow train and then she text me at 11am to say doesn't like the placeHave hoped of doing more tomorrow and clearly need to do more decluttering to find my notebook with my numbers in it. Have a few things to go back tomorrow so will add those in.
Very sad about the Queen, very few of that generation left.
Hope to get back on the decluttering bandwagon, my winter clothes are in a suitcase but never properly put away so will start sorting that out soon.
@mhagster fab news about the house, hope you get some time to relax7 -
@TC77 Here’s the one I have. You take the lid off and turn round the bit with the pencil in to change it into a longer pencil. I don’t know why they stopped making them as they are a great idea.

QueenJess - I just have to drop in from lurkdom to say thank you. My grandparents had one of these mysterious items, and thanks to you I now know what it was for.
Mystery solved. Many thanks

I didn’t realise a pencil extender was going to cause so much interest 😂. Hopefully they’ll make a comeback now! I use mine daily once my pencil is too short (as it is at the moment).
Out of interest I looked for some online and secondhand they are still impossible to find. The best I could see was some on Etsy for about £25!2025 decluttering: 4,019 🌟🥉🌟💐🏅🏅🌟🥈🏅🌟🏅💐💎🌟🏅🏆🌟🏅🌟
