@Wildrose money was very tight when we were growing up so I can understand your dad. Mum’s Dunkirk Spirit was very useful and I’m grateful for the skills she passed on. I’m still reluctant to gut a fish or core a kidney but it’s not beyond me (and was surprisingly handy in A-level Biology) 😉 and I can turn my hand to most things. My dressmaking however is abysmal!I periodically hear her saying (in my head) ‘Oh my daughter, my daughter. What did your Mummy tell you?’ As I find myself doing something she taught me/did herself and used to make me mutter. Often when I review my glass jar stash…..Like your dad, my mum
would be fully supportive of the necessity to be kinder to our planet. My dad trod very lightly on the Earth, with just his kitbag.✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

Wildrose - young people buy the teeth here to use in Halloween haunted houses. But I gave my mother's to a charity group. But she had never had a chance to wear them having gone into hospice before the dentist had finished them. But the charity told me they can match up people with them just like they do glasses.8

3220-3221: deleted 100 emails
3222-3241: items to bin and recycling, the usual packaging, loo roll inners, you know the score!
3242-3250: records to bin, not salvageable
3251-3281: records to sell (that's just the albums, singles to sort through)
Another pile of records sorted to be cleaned: hopefully they'll clean OK it's mostly just dust.

Love the warming pan and thank you for sharing family stories and histories. Apart from clothes little personal of my dad, except some photos but suitcase of letters of mum's from.the 30s -2000s ( born 1922/20). Have found their ration cards, think his RAF stuff is in the loft. Refinishing furniture sounds skilled to me! We'd like to get house on market in Sept but doubtful.

Holiday Mantras
1. Try not to eat too much but drink plenty of water
2. Restrict time playing AB2 to 45 mins in the morning & 60 mins in the evening 😉
3. Breakfast everyday with the family 😉
4. Enjoy the excursions
Wednesday has been an excellent day - sunshine all around even from 6:45 a.m. 😉 Breakfast at 7:00 a.m. in the buffet restaurant 😱 I am definitely not used to getting up at that time 😱 although I occasionally go to bed at that time 😅 Minibus picked us up at 8:15 a.m. 25min journey to Rodney Bay marina where the 6 of us boarded the catamaran - only soft drinks available & a good job too 😂 Cruised to Soufrire & I found a lovely American lady who had a lighter that worked 👏 After a cruise of 90 minutes we boarded a bus to the volcanic pools. All the gentlemen + me covered ourselves in mud & went in the pools 😉 Sadly the water was too hot for DH’s DSis & his niece so they had to use the shower to get the mud off 😔 Reboarded the bus & went to lunch - a served buffet - rice, noodles, coleslaw, battered fish, chicken & lentil gravy. So delicious 😋 A piece of coconut cake which was not really cooked ☹️ Back on the bus & on to a waterfall - 6 people out of 22 went in - apparently freezing 😉 Then back to the catamaran & a stop for snorkelling & swimming - only DH’s niece went in 😉 The rest of us drank rum punch & 3 got a bit squiffy 😄 + DH got very squiffy & I got rather squiffy but less so than DH 😂 I danced on the catamaran as walking was difficult 😁 DH struggled to walk at all, but I managed to walk although not in a straight line 😂 Got back to hotel & went straight to coffee bar. The other 4 of our party had a coffee & returned to their rooms. Sadly DH was ill before he reached the restroom - but we slightly assuaged the unfortunate incident with a $10 tip to the cleaner 😉 Managed to get back to our room with no other incidents & DH is now fast asleep & I am basically sober & hungry 😉 However I have to say that it was a thoroughly enjoyable day & my dancing seemed to amuse a large number of people 😄 It is now nearly 8:00 p.m. so I am getting showered & changed & will try to go & get something to eat - not sure if I will be able to rouse DH 😉 Back later to cheerlead 😉

So I showered & changed although unable to rouse DH 😥 Walked up to reception & posted the 3 written postcards then onto the buffet restaurant & bumped into the other 4 of our party who had just finished eating. Poor me - dinner for one 😄😉 Salad, sparkling water & a rather nice coffee. Stopped for about 10 minutes watching the Michael Jackson tribute group - dancing not singing 😉 Walked back & roused DH enough for him to get into bed rather than on top of bed 😁 It is 9:30 p.m. St Lucian time. I think tomorrow is a very lazy beach day 😂
mhagster, shame about the knitting machines even though you disliked them 😉 Wow you have done well mhagster 👏 only seems like a week ago that you were starting the decluttering & now the house is ready to go on the market 🤩
teachergirl, it seems like people will buy anything from eBay 😂 Excellent decluttering 👏 Sorry the food descriptions are weakening your resolve 😔 but I am sure I will be joining you on the dieting bandwagon when I return home 😉
florianatwobob, the plasterers are doing a grand job 👏 They are definitely motoring 👏
Excellent work QueenJess 👏 you definitely have the bit between your teeth 🙂 As to the clothing - that will go as & when 😉
Excellent work in the garden Wildrose 👏 & loving the visualisation of the completed project 😊 As to the diaries I am very impressed that you have changed your view from negative to positive 👏🙂 They are now a testament to you - returning to being Wildrose 🥳 Perhaps the top with skinny arms can be converted to a cap sleeve top?
Sorry to hear you have been feeling overwhelmed TC77 ☹️ But what a magnificent amount of decluttering at your dad’s house 👏 Hopefully the telephone/address books will not be too taxing or upsetting when you deal with them 🤞Sounds like a spell in the TLC carriage would do you the world of good - time to recharge & gird your loins ready to tackle decluttering your own home 🙂 Sad person that I am, I have been enjoying the denture discussion 😅
Wildrose, I think you have hit the nail on the head “ if most of them were the war generation with hard-wired frugality and might-come-in-useful mind sets?”
TC77, you deserve better than damaged items 🙂
Wildrose, that is a great bit of decluttering - recognising what you are good at & accepting those things that others are good at 👏
Thank you for sharing family history florianatwobob 👏 I am fascinated with other generations & their attitude to ‘stuff’ BTW the copper warming pan is beautiful & may come in useful if energy prices continue to rise so rapidly 😉 really I am only half joking.
Also thank you Wildrose 👏 I would definitely have signed up for poaching & foraging lessons 😄
I am in awe mhagster 🤩 I agree with Wildrose that you are an inspiration to us all 👏
florianatwobob, your mum & dad sound like wonderful people & we could do with more of their ilk in today’s world 😊
weenancy, there are some marvellous charities in the U.S. 🙂
Great decluttering short_bird 👏
Hope you can find the RAF stuff, TC77 🤞 All fascinating 🙂 Good luck with getting the house on the market 🍀
DH is snoring away now that I am just about to go to bed 😔 typical 🤣

Just a quick update as no time to read posts so far. Back home again after sad few days down South. My dear brother died early on Tuesday morning after a 22 year battle with the big C. This was a different type and untreatable but he survived over 2 years whereas they gave him 6 weeks at diagnosis.
Mostly just tidying and cleaning and not much going out at the moment. My other big issues rumble on in the background but at least my poorly ankle is a lot better.2025 Decluttering Campaign 697/2025 🏅🏅🏅🏅(🏅🏅) 🌟🌟

My Mum is from '36, my Dad is from '41, and they have the accompanying mindset: keep it simple, enjoy your family, do whatever you can yourself, be part of a larger social structure for support (in their case, church, and they do a lot of the supporting).
Recently, a member of their church died, a relatively young man, with an ex-wife and a 10-year old son. He came from Togo and the ex-wife from Burundi. My Dad arranged the funeral service, involving the ex-wife and the son (mainly for the son), explaining the process to her. She had no idea. The man was single after his divorce, so it fell to her to arrange the admin, and even the emptying of his council house.
Anyway, it jas spurned my parents on to go through their stuff again, and they want to discuss their funeral arrangements again this week, while I'm here. They have a checklist now: who to call, what to sing, where to be buried, etc. All to make life easier for me when it happens.Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.5911 -
Big hugs granny Kate. Xxx
I have been awol. Got a call from medi link during the night. Most surprised that it was my Mother. Mil calls 5 times a day!
My Mum had rolled over in bed and broken her artificial hip. Thank goodness only an hour wait for an ambulance. Difficult day as Mum (and I) have a rare allergy to morphine. 10 hours later she had surgery and was as bright as a button once the agony had gone. I have handed the baton to my brother now as I have no car as Mr V deals with his mother on Thursdays. Just to add she didn’t swear once!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is another one with Dunkirk spirit.Amongst this DD1 and bf were staying. They went this morning to meet DS and DIL in Aberdeen to get the ferry for their Shetland adventure.I have a lot of washing to do. DD1 left today, Dd2 staying tonight and DS and DIL staying next week. Before this whilst my visitors were in Sheffield watching the lionesses I outed the under sink cupboard. Don’t know how but I filled a washing basket of “stuff “. That must be at least 40 things on their way out of my life.Vx:9 -
