Bargain! We always had removed-from-circulation books at home, a benefit of mum being a council librarian. We also had a full set of Encyclopaedia Brittanica that were cast-off from dad's industrial library!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Two black Wallis tunic dresses, a black Primark top with white stars, a blue BHS vest top, two floaty, sheer vest tops (one blue, one black) and some black shorts. That all came to £25. I could have bought a lot more as they had a lot of nice things there. I will definitely be going there again.:) I like the way they had put all the separate colours together as I wear mostly black, blue and red. I find it annoying when charity shops jumble different colours of clothes together for some reason. I'm very pleased with the dresses as they are lightweight despite being black so they will be good in this next heatwave with some sandals.:)
I find colours are fairly evident from the hanging edge whereas the size needs closer inspection.
I know what size clothes are likely to fit me and don't do home sewing to re-size things but then I have a wider colour palette in my wardrobe.5 -
Today has been my first car boot sale in a month (visited one charity shop while away but bought nothing) so I overdid it a bit. In fact I went to Bedale and Thirsk (morning and afternoon) despite the heat and came home with the following:
Per Una chunky cardigan £2.50
Satin wrap-around blouse 50p
Faded stretch jeans 50p (to my surprise, very comfy despite weight gain since I last bought that size)
3 x children's books 50p
1 x fabric book £2
Box of assorted craft bits £2
Child's coat hooks 50p
Douwe Egbert large coffee jar 50p
Small clamp/vice £1
Child's DVD 25p
Knitting needle box with 10 pairs of large needles £1
Biscuit cutter 25p
Box of biscuit cutters £1 (for work)
Block of modelling clay 50p
I've been through the assortment of craft items and picked out the ones I might use: the others are either going to my sister if wanted or will be donated elsewhere. I need to do the same with the knitting needles in case I'm duplicating any I already have.

Excellent haul @Cherryfudge !
Yesterday I had some unexpected success at a local chaz: 3 balti dishes; a hooped Frozen dress, two blouses and a short pair of cute shorts for my little niece; a beautiful 8"x10" photoframe that will look perfect in my living room, a set of 6 napkin holders and 3 books for me for the grand sum of £8.50.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.7 -
@Cherryfudge. Intrigued by the ‘box of assorted craft bits’. One of my favourite finds ever was an old wooden sewing box complete with contents. Oh the joy of finding sterling silver button hooks, bits of handmade lace, pearl buttons, pure silk thread, a tiny pair of scissors shaped like two swans and much more.
Anyhoo, I must have been following in your footsteps today cos I picked up an M & S linen dress, cut on the cross with short sleeves and pockets (yay,) in a sludge green and peach flowery pattern on a cream background from the BHF in Thirsk. Bit pricy at £12.50 but I really liked it.4 -

I once bought a sewing box at auction from the estate of a local lady. It was huge fun exploring the contents though it didn't run to handmade lace. There were lots of pins and needles though many were beyond use. The little boxes they'd been stored in were interesting - probably from the fifties and sixties, things like tins that held sweets. There were loads of scissors, including the pinking shears I still have and some other useful pairs. Lots of them were too blunt to be used though. If my memory serves me rightly, I also had a lot of sewing thread and other bits and pieces of haberdashery from the same source but it was many years ago so I don't remember everything. It's a shame the local auction is now livestock only: it used to alternate with household and general items and was a great place to look around - we could have included it on here as a top source of second hand treasure! My best buy was a barbecue for £5 in November.
