@grandmanerd
Are we related?? My mom bought a bolt of denim to make me and my brothers a number of what should have been trendy items when I was in high school in the early 1970s. My brothers sensibly warned her off before she got started so I got the full bolt's worth of clothes. Now first thing to say is this was not good proper blue denim. It was light weight denim look material of a milk chocolate brown shade. And because there was so much she made me - trousers, a sleevesless dress, a long line, knee length waist coat, a maxi coat, a maxi skirt, a big floppy hat and a shoulder bag.
To add insult to injury she used the sewing machine embroidery attachment to write "fuddle duddle" on the shoulder bag. For the brits in the crowd this was a what the then prime minister Pierre Trudeau (father to Justin) claimed to have said in parliament when accused of using inappropriate language. I was so embarrassed."Never retract, never explain, never apologise; get things done and let them howl.”7 -
oh dear. I have a confession to make.
My name is Brie and I'm a scarfaholic.
On Friday I was getting ready for work (location is in an old chapel with little/no heating and, for logistics reasons, doors are left open front and back - so a bit chilly this week) and decided that I really needed to layer up. Happy to wear my new wooly gillet I found in Ireland, dug out a fleece I haven't worn for a couple of years that would look nice under the gillet. And went and looked for an appropriate, extra thick, extra big, extra warm scarf to glam the outfit and keep me from freezing. And then I went downstairs to get breakfast.
While cooking I heard a noise but thought it must be the guys doing some construction work a couple of doors down. It was only when I came home from work later in the day that I discovered it must have been the clothing rail that the scarf was hanging on having collapsed. And today I thought I better get round to tidying up the mess. Rail reassembled, clothes hanging back on it while the extra large scarves relaxed on the bed.
And then I thought for the fun of it I would count my scarves. Now I have often joked about the number of scarves I have because well, I have a lot. And the joke being that "there must be at least a hundred!! Ha ha ha!!!" Well dear readers I was wrong.
First there are the extra big, warm, ones. Technically they aren't scarves but rather wraps, pashminas, whatever. But if you google scarves that's where you might find them. And guess how many I have? Yup. 30. Yes thirty. So on to the lighter weight ones - predominantly silk, mostly long and slim (unlike me), name a colour I got it. All on one of those Ikea scarf ring hangers. Now I admit to having been a tad overwhelmed by volume but I do believe there are 79 (yes 1 short of 80) of these.
So yes. I have 109 scarves. Unless I lost count and it's actually 119 or something. (fyi - this doesn't include the winter wooly ones that are made to go with coats worn outside. that's probably another half dozen at least.)
I'm wondering if I should go out to the chazzers tomorrow to get another so it's a nice even number.

Oh my god 119? What kinda number is 119?! You deffo need one more. No you need 11 more, cos 3 is the magic number (so that song said), then you’ll have an even 130 which is deffo the right amount cos it’ll have a 3 in it.119 would make my brain itch 😣Liechtenstein, the world's sixth smallest country, is the largest exporter of false teeth.6

Fate is telling you to get more. Plus a more robust hanger. I wouldn't mention the actual number to husband, as he's doing the Right Thing even it slightly silly money (and "you need the scarf" has stuck in my memory for All the Right Reasons). Onwards!4

@Brie I am in completed agreement about scarves, I wear them regularly indoors and out and since the weather turned the fluffy variety have been a daily go-to sartorial item.
A chazzer scarf can keep you warm and stylish for a low cost, IMHO the more the better! No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.4 -
The thing about scarves....they are always soooo forgiving! Put on a few pounds... lose a few pounds - they always fit!
Anyhoo, first find in ages... a Hobbs dress, seemingly new and pure new wool, bit pricy at £12.50 but fits well and I can imagine wearing it with thick black tights, ankle boots and a shortie cardi! From Northallerton, Sue Ryder.

@grandmanerd and @Brie - I feel your pain on the issue of childhood clothes and will just mention that my mother was a devotee of Clothkits in the 70s. I still can't bear the colour orange in clothing!
@Brie - you're keeping all those scarves out of landfill so being good for the environment and one more would be even better!
@Miró - lovely dress and given Hobbs prices good value too. Any chance of a selfie to show us the ensemble one day?

Oooh nice dress @Miró. I'd wear that over a thin black poloneck and thick black (or poss coloured - maroon/bottle green?) tights. Or maybe over a crispy white shirt...Liechtenstein, the world's sixth smallest country, is the largest exporter of false teeth.1

I popped into my favourite BHF shop this afternoon and bought a 200ml Le Parfait jar with a perfect condition seal ring, £2.50, and a pair of M*rks dark grey thermal leggings, £4.99. I also bought a packet of their Christmas cards because although I am sure I did my usual trick of buying some in the January sales I can't find where I've put them. 🙄
