January 2022 Grocery Challenge

Possibly a frivolous spend today; I took into my head to try making sauerkraut. So W8rose are the richer by £18.16, by the time I'd bought 3 organic cabbages (mine at the allotment having turned to green slime, all but one) to get the weight I needed, plus caraway seeds & sea salt, having no actual idea what kind of salt our normal stuff is - must ask, when the few market stalls that are moving to a new location are up & running! (Also a few YS bits for the freezer.) Once I've got the recipe off pat, I won't be fussing over exact ingredients, but I've found it generally does pay to use the specified ingredients the first time you try something out.

I will need to do a L!dls run in the next few days, as supplies of butter and halloumi are running perilously low, which is potentially disastrous with 2 baking-mad vegetarians in the house. But shouldn't actually need too much this time; we still have lots of stuff left over from the festivities.

£53.57 spent. Balance £266.43/£320 First shop of the year (made it to the 2nd of January 🤣). I made a meal plan and took a detailed list which helped (I know it's so obvious but sometimes I just wing it with very expensive consequences)

Spent £3.99 on my MrT delivery pass and £1.04 at the c00p on chicken and bananas (discounted with student discount and membership offers).

Please can I join in? Budget for January will be £100 for all groceries / food. I’ve got a £20 gift card for L*dl so that should help save some cash this month. I’ve also got a freezer jam packed full and loads of treats and cheese left over from Christmas so will be focusing on clearing the freezer and cupboards!

My first spend of the year, a Coop top up shop £18.20. I’m hoping to be able to cut down on these trips, it’s normally my DH who goes and he buys stuff we don’t always need but he likes the look of. Today he had a list and stuck to it ! 

I’ve written our monthly meal plan and need to do a Lidl bulk shop and have a Morrison’s delivery coming on the 9th but shouldn’t need anything except sausages for the next couple of days.

first spends of the year was £9 on sausage rolls and sausages, these are our special hoads korkers from kent, well worth spending more on!! community pantry wednesday so no spends until then! good luck everyone. xx
