No money spent yet, but I had loads of fresh fruit and veg from a local food hub for free that will last me at least two weeks and I have full freezer and well stocked pantry ( I think all those tins and packets multiply when I don't go in there!!), So hopefully I won't have to spend much at all in the next two weeks - yay
Just have to do a new meal plan and see how far I get. It's cheaper for me at the moment as the pup I have been looking after has gone home at last so I don't have to buy puppy food. Miss him really, he belongs to my dd so I get to see him loads for puppy cuddles.

Thank you elsiepac for your ninja skills on organising this thread. I'm coming back to the boards as a way of putting the money-saving training wheels back on for 2022 lol! Here we go - budget for 1 veggie/vegan and one carnivore with a sweet-tooth - to include household cleaning and laundry products. This month I'm starting with a much bigger budget than I'll hopefully need and a full freezer/store cupboard.
January budget aiming for £200

Can I be put down for Jan Budget - £481
Overall 2022 aim is £15.50 a day including alcohol and all cleaning products & toiletries
First spend down was high on alcohol as Tesco had some clubcard offers, this should cover us for a while with the normal January cut down of drinking.
£76.05, as well £22 on booze, there was £10 on egg whites (really does help me snack less) and £8 on beef brisket which I'll turn into approx 6 portions of beef stew.
I'll be picking up some veg etc to do batch cooking this week and also need to stock snacks with DM for when she has DD to stop her constant chocolate onslaughtCurrent position £76.05/£481

The weight loss eating starts here, although I did have lots of veg with my roast dinner yesterday so fairly healthy. I also had prosecco but we'll draw a line under that. A gentle start today with cornflakes for brekky and a bacon and egg toastie for lunch. I'm thinking hash browns, low fat (made by local butcher) sausages and beans for dinner as that's something that my son will eat so I won't have to make separate meals. I have to start a healthy eating plan gently - too big a change and I give up so I'll start by trying to use things up. All from cupboard, fridge and freezer so no touching the grocery budget. That will change on Tuesday when I drop the HT (my teenage son) at college and go food shopping.
I'm thinking that I may do a freezer and food cupboard inventory this week. We're at the mid winter point where I have the biggest store cupboard stocks in case of weather problems, illness etc. We usually start using the stash up now and run it down to less in the summer when it's easy (theorectically) to go shopping and we eat home grown salad. It's easy to overlook food that is buried in the freezer when there's so much in there.
The cat is an opportunist and comes begging in the kitchen every time I'm in there. Checking her food bowl 15 times is the current record....Somewhat surprisingly her weight stays constant at 7 lbs and the vet says that's perfect. She's 12 1/2 years old so we do give her a few treats but not too many. I always have at least 2 weeks cat food in stock as I have no wish to deal with an angry cat with an upset tummy.
I hope that you've all had a fairly decent Christmas 😊11 -

Happy new year!
I have a couple of days off work so I’m using them to do a pantry/fridge/freezer stock take, some food shopping and a batch cooking to freeze. I hope the batch cooking will stop me picking up ready meals when I’m working late or too tired to cook. I’m hoping to have 3 or 4 weeks of evening meals in the freezer before I go back to work on Tuesday. I’ll make some soup for lunches too.
Since this is my first month I’m keeping a note of costs so I can work out a budget for next month.11 -
Wow, 2022 already. Happy New Grocery Challenge everybody.
I'm going to drop my monthly budget by £25. I'd really like it to be £200, but for now I will go from £250 to £225. So I will stick with this, and if I manage to get it to less, then that will be a bonus.
