Frankly, it looks like it belongs to a kids deposit account. I can't take it seriously. It's quite hideous!

Also, the the expiry date on it is a year earlier than the one it's replacing.

Who thought this was a good idea?

There's no set amount of time that cards should have before expiration. Risk is one of the factors which might affect it, and if you reported the previous card lost/stolen or were a victim of fraud this could be a factor.
One of my Natwest Credit Cards was replaced in 2020 with a card that expired only one year later. The card which replaced that one had an expiration several years in the future.
In any case it's nothing to do with the graphics on the card.

I dont care too much what it looks like as long as its flat so the numbers/name etc dont wear out in my card wallet. Got a replacement Natwest Mastercard Credit Card just 2 months ago (expired) and its a different colour but still has the raised digits.

Why doesn't it have a photo of the holder on it?

Why should it have a photo of the holder on it?

No one in a retailer generally looks at a card these days as its mostly chip and pin, contactless or Apple Pay or Google Pay (Gpay).

So what purpose would having a photo of the holder on it be useful in these circumstances?
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

I remember the Virgin Money lounges (now sadly defunct) keeping a photo of you on their database to facilitate access to free coffee etc.
  • The design of this card is dire. I will use the old one for as long as possible. What was the person thinking of that came up wit this!

I remember them *just* - I got a Saturday job in 2005, so worked on a till for the last few months before Chip & PIN day (Valentines 2006). It was only on the swipe only cards IIRC (which I guess makes sense since we weren't supposed to handle Chip cards), so disappeared when they were replaced by chip cards. The pictures were lo res, grayscale and often so washed out it was entirely useless.

I think it's supposed to be one of those beach huts you see on the English Riviera. Suppose its better than Playskool NatWest.
