  • Good afternoon all, long time reader of the forum but only occasional poster. I would like to join in to have some accountability for what I do with my money!

I will have a read of this year's current thread for inspiration, but what would be covered by "savings"? Additional payments into my personal pension outside of my monthly employee contribution? Monthly savers? Deposit accounts?

Any tips would be gratefully received.Thank you all  :)

Everyone does it slightly differently depending on their own circumstances - so definitely some just seem to mark anything they put into a savings account each month. Some count everything they don't spend. Some include pension contributions. Some include the market movement of pensions and S&S ISA's.

Completely up to you and what makes sense for your circumstances!

That’s entirely up to you. What is your saving goal for? I’m desperately making up for lost time on my pension savings so this is my top priority and therefore I include all additional pension contributions and subsequent tax relief (I don’t include my normal workplace contributions). I do also contribute to cash /ISA savings towards moving house one day and replacing my car plus short term savings but when I withdraw any from that I deduct from that months total.

Basically record whatever works for you

    Hi,

Can I please join this challenge?

I would like to save £15k this year to help with buying a house in 2023. This target may change if the perfect house comes available at a good price earlier, but plan A is to save as much as I can in 2022, and buy a house in 2023.

So, that's what I'll start with

    Thanks!
