  • fedupandskint, I too have mid brown hair, pale skin but green eyes. Your pallette sounds perfect. Try and limit the black to maybe your bottom half, keep your colour close to your top half. I would recycle anything that isn't in your colour pallett, regardless of weather it fits or not. I think instinctivly we know waht colours suit us, just out of nosiness what kinda lifestyle do you have???? Sharron

I am loving this thread. Sharon, please do post what you wear each day. I am also one of those people who have so many clothes but then never know what to wear in the morning..

Me too definatly interested, I'm in the same boat, mid 30's never been fashionable but now I move from too-young-and-casual to too-old-and-frumpy. I've been looking at Gok & Trinny & Susannah websites in the last couple of days to get ideas of what suits my body type (classic pear). I'm also being honest about my size as I lost a bunch of weight over recent year (6 stone) at my best I got down to size 12 but don't think I can maintain that long term (recently crept back up 1 stone and into size 14) so I've got to be realistic about what size clothes to buy and I think its gonna have to be 14 just to ensure I will wear them. I've got size 12 clothes that I haven't taken the tags off yet! They always say the well-dressed woman wears a larger size don't they!?

My problem is always shoes, in that I never have the right shoes for an outfit. I do a lot of walking so my shoes have to be practical and therefore I end up in casual shoes (converse type) or flip flops in summer or boots in winter. I guess I need smart flats (loafer type?) but I find I buy clothes but they don't go with my shoes so I never wear them!

Please keep coming with the info Sharon and everyone on how they are gonna change things and I might get my butt into gear!

    Hi Fedupandskint

Loving reading all the good advise on here, was just wondering where you found the colour chart?

I have medium dark hair, grey/blue eyes and olive skin. Really like blue and aqua colours but have no idea if they suit me or not!

Really need to sort out my wardrobe and have ordered a sewing machine so I can start making some things for myself and Daughter. Clothes are really expensive over here and choice is rubbish. Found out yesterday that Next deliver to Portugal, hope this includes sale stuff :rotfl:.

Anyway hope everyone is enjoying there weekend, don't know what to do with myself tonight now no Britains Got Talent - how sad am I!!!!!

    Hi everyone and Sharron!

Right the clearout is going to take much longer than I thought! I have sorted out the dresses. I didn't realise I had 23!

    11 to keep
    3/11 for holidays
    3/11 for going out
4/11 for day and night wear
    3/11 unsure about
    1/11 relagated for work

Colours range from charcoal to cream with black flowers on to purple.

The 3 I am unsure about are 1 purple one, 1 that is a bit tight at the moment and a holiday dress (hanging onto it for a bit longer) and another holiday dress which is a long maxi dress bias cut in shades of gold and brown. I've never worn it and I had it for probably 5-6 year. Who am I kidding why am I keeping it? In case I go on holiday somewhere swish? As if! It did look quite nice on even tho' these aren't really my colours

    12 not keeping
5 brand new and had for 12mths+
2 worn but will probably never wear again posh evening style if going to a lovely restaurant

Pile to sell or give away
    3 red colour shades
3 black dresses that make me look dismal (keeping one black dress I love but it is more of a charcoal grey with silver embriodery so that is prob why)
2 brown shades that I was never really that sure about
    2 dresses that don't fit
1 green dress I loved but now it looks rubbish on, the style more than colour
Finally the dress I loved but never had the occasion to wear it and now it is too small ho hum!

Will do skirts/trousers and jeans and tops tomorrow

I had no idea I had so many things as I tend to wear the same few items, typical!

On the plus side I tried on a lovely blue maxi dress I bought 2 yrs ago and I've never worn. It has inspired me to wear it when the weather is nice again as it looked really nice :D

Rebecca - I put colour consultation into google and eventually found a couple of sites that gave ideas for my colouring. It's not great but a good start for me as I had forgotten what my colours where!

Big thanks to Sharron :T for inspiring me to finally do this and everyone who revived this thread. It is very helpful to me indeed :D

ETA: My lifestyle is casual to say the least with the very occasional night out and walking holidays and a tromp around town at the weekend or into the city. Work is funky (unlike me!) and I could get away with most things there. Dog walking is 3/4 trousers, wellies or birkies and a waterproof!

  • Bunny 200, a size 14 is what i've decided i will be, however i do need to loose half a stone before my holiday, my muffin top doesn't look that great in a kini!! well done on your weight loss- 6 stone thats no mean feat. Your right about wearing one size bigger, there is nothing worse than seeing a woman squeezed into an item that would have been really nice if it was a size bigger, and who knows what the label states!! only you know what size it is!!!

Regarding shoes, i NEED my feet to be comfortable, i simply can not function if my feet are sore. I find the wide fitting shoes in clarks the best for me. The pumps i'm wearing atm are from the outlet in cheshire oaks-£10. Converse style are cool, you could wear them with quiet a few outfits, they'd go well with jeans and you could wear them with formal trousers for an up-to-date look to. I have a pair of ugg boots for winter, they are the most comfortable item of footwear i have ever owned. They were pricey at £140 (xmas gift) but i have worn them for 2 winters already will definetly be worn this winter too.

Fedupandskint, what type of lifestyle do you lead??? Are dresses worn on a regular basis?? The ones you arn't sure about, put them away under your bed or in a cupboard out of sight. If in 6 months, no occassion has arisen for you too wear them, or you havn't given them a thought, recycle them. I think i mentioned on an earlier thread that i've just charity-shopped some garments that i was unsure about.

The maxi dress is definetly your starting point for your capsule, you put it on and felt good-RESULT, make a note of the colour and the style. Baby-steps will get you there. Well done, pleeeese keep at it, your confidence will keep growing the more time you put into this, Keep posting and asking questions!!!

    Love Sharron

just caught your edit, your lifestyle is casual and dog walking, this will mean you won't need too much smart clothes so i would be ruthless in these areas of your wardrobe and get rid of most of your smart/going out stuff. HTH

I did the Gok consultation. I am an apple (which I knew already) and I hate it. I mean really hate it. There is little definition between my waist and my hips and upper back. There are women who carry more weight than me but they still look more womanly because they have a definate feminine curve whereas I just feel like a brick most of the time.
I am rubbish with accessories, the only think I like is high heeled shoes but now being at home with 2 young kids there isn't the need for them.
Goodness I really need some help. I don't feel like anything in my wardrobe really goes with anything else. I live in jeans and v necked t shirts (how very unexciting). I feel frumpy and middle aged when in reality at 34 I am not ready to be dressing so badly. I don't have money to go out shopping and still carrying baby weight I want to lose some before spending what little money I have on new clothes.

Sorry been reading this thread, thinking about things and feeling sorry for myself. H is out so on my own and am wallowing.......

  • ah bitsy beans don't feel sorry for yourself, i'm an apple too, yes i wish i was taller and thinner but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. It really is about accepting what you have, and my attitude is that okay i can't have the body shape i want but i will be dressed well and co-ordinated. If i should decide to loose weight i will adjust my wardrobe then. Untill then i will be a well dressed apple!!! I think holding off looking good NOW gives out negativity. Why not dress yourself for the shape you have now, and tackle the weight later???? You can make your clothes make you fab today, but your not going to loose weight today. Your confidence would increase and it might put you in a better frame of mind to loose weight.

There seems to be a pattern of 30-somethings having a clothes dilemma, your not alone. Why not wear your jeans and usual t-shirt tommorrow with a nice belt and a co-ordinating braclet/necklace???? I bet it will make you feel better.
