Okay my (beach) holiday capsule involves
4 pairs of bikini bottoms (2 black, 1 purpley, 1 blue)
4 bikini tops ( 2 black, 1 purpley, 1 blue)
Any bottom will go with any top. The purple top is a halterneck vesty style, the black ones are bra style the blue one is a vesty style.
1 black/purply kafatan
2 beach skirts, 1 white 1 pink (i use these quiet a lot, don't like the tops of my thighs)
3 pairs of cheapo flip flops
1 hat, lots of cheapo shades.
1 beach bag.
That's pretty much all i need for the pool/beach, i min n match so i never wear the same combination twice!!!
I also take from my main summer wardrobe, usually used for evening
White linen trousers
navy linen skirt
maxi dress
3 co-ordinating vests
white short slevved cardi
lovely patterned skirt that only comes out on holiday cos no one (usually) Knows me abroad. (dressier than the beach skirts)
1 purple and pink sundress, again only comes out on holiday or in the garden!!
silver sandals and birkenstocks.
So that's pretty much it. I do have my eye on a summer dress in next, unsure as to wether i will buy it or not. I will wait for the sale tho as this is in July and we don't go on holiday till August. I also take lots of bangles/long beads etc to 'dress up' my evening wear!!

How do you do that?
I think I'm starting a mid-life crisis. I'm 46 on Saturday:eek::eek: and want a complete change. I'm having my hair cut today and I want sexy and sassy :rotfl:I need a new wardrobe, but don't want to spend a fortune, so need a capsule one.0 -
Packing must be so easy for you Sharon. Sorry to pick your brains so much but through time will you keep adding to the capsule wardrobe with the same pink, purple, grey colours or will you start another capsule wardrobe with complementing colours? No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30

sharronloves2spend wrote: »It took time!!!!! It was something that evolved out of me being totally fed up with so much clothes and i couldn't find a thing to wear. If you watched gok last night i was like that woman. My approach was very haphazard, and to be honset, as i am quiet 'vain' it got me down. Alway thinking what to wear and what goes together. I learnt that you can have TOO MUCH choice.
I started by looking at my lifestyle and what was appropiate for the stuff i do everyday, i.e running the kids around, school run, shopping, meetings at school (i,m a govener), hospital appointments with my son, occasionally lunches with my friends. I then looked at my wardrobe and realised that the 12 suites i had from my days at working where i had to be smart, were no good I also had a lot of going out, dressy clothes that i no longer needed or fitted into. I then decided on my 'style' this mainly involved casual wear with the occasional smarter item. My colour pallett is black/grey/purpley/pinky. I absoultly will not buy something thats not in my colour pallett. After my basics where in place, jeans cardis, jackets, the rest just evolved over time. Whenever i saw something that was my syle, colour pallet, and was at the right price it was bought.
It all sounds really boring, but it's not. I never feel the panick of 'god i have to buy something' and only really go shopping when i'm in need of something. I love accessories so if i want to liven up or make something look different i go ot with the thought of a new necklace/braclet/earrings/scarf. I went to new look today as my black leggings needed repalcing. I also bought a 'trendy' long shirt (sale) and a pair of earrings. I came home and put my old leggins in the bin and tried the shirt on with several other things in my wardrobe and it fitted in perfectly. I don't anticipate buying anything else this season. So my total spend this season has been £42. We are going to majorca in august, and again i don't need anything buying for then either(yes i have a capsule holiday wardrobe aswell!!!) Next season i'm planning on buying a new good quality wool coat. My underwear will also need replacing then too.
OOO i've waffled on for far too long!!
HTH Sharron
I'm so interested in this, I've always wanted to do a complete Trinny & Suzannah/Gok wardrobe change (without the public humiliation tho!:D) as I just don't know what to wear these days. I find I'm either dressed scruffily and too young or frumpy and too old.:o Just have a few questions:
Do you find it a little like a 'uniform' wearing the same colour palette all the time or does it just mean that everything goes?
How long did it take you to get things together?
How long did the temptation to buy random things take to go away?
Do you find it disapponting opening your wardrobe or does it feel good?
I'm pretty OS in most things apart from clothes, its crazy as I end up wearing the same few items over and over again yet my wardrobe and drawers are groaning with things I never wear, just afraid of limiting myself even though I find it liberating to take this approach in other parts of my life!0 -
Eyeonspain, don't be sorry I like to pass on my wisdom (this is the only subject i have any in lol). No i won't start another capsule unless my lifestyle changes, and i can't see this happening anytime soon. This colour pallett is perfect and i love the colours so i don't think i will be changing it. I don't feel the need to change it dramaticaly, but say i buy a top thats within my colour pallet, i will go home and maybe take something out that's looking tired and not-so-up to date. I did this yesterday after i bought a new shirt, but i decided nothing needed chucking out. The key to this working is not to have too much that you can't see what you've got. I don't really have a major cull anymore, just replacing stuff when needed and the odd thing that catches my eye. It's kind of one in one out type thing. Hope that answers your question SharronSometimes your the dog, and sometimes your the lampost..:p0

Bunny 200, No it definetly doesn't feel like a uniform at all, my colour pallett is all sorts of different tones and if you i worked out how many combinations there is i've probably got around 10-12 outfits. This is perfect for me. I also have 2 velour trackys and a couple of older vests (pre capsule)that i wear when i'm not going over the door!!!
It took about 12 months 2 evolve, i started with the summer and i built that capsule, then onto winter, using the vests and t-shirts from the summer capsule through to winter, each season i replace what's getting tired. This season the maxi dress replaced another dress, all three vests were replaced, older ones into the rag bag (not fit for the charity shop).
The temptation to buy never really goes away, i adore clothes and shopping, i just stick to my 'Rules' occassionaly i've impulsed bought, this usually results in the item going back to the shop the next day. I think the key here is not not go to those shops in the first place. I do have to buy 3 out of my 4 childrens clothes, so shops that sell clthes for everyone is the worst, for example m&s. Whilst i'm shopping there for my kids, i may wander over to the womens and i nearly always see something i want.
In answer to your last question, no i don't find it dissappointing, i feel energised when i look in my wardrobe. Everything FITS, this was a biggie for me, as i had a lot of guilt when i used to open my wardrobe, clothes i'd spent on and couldn't get into, it used to make me feel like !!!!!! aswell a constant reminder that i had to loose weight. All my clothes are quite bright and very girly.
Don't beat yourself up over having tons of clothes, most women do, and my type of wardrobe is not for everyone. A close friend of mine works in 'outfits' whenever she buys a top, she buys bottom, jacket, shoes etc as a complete outfit. She never deviates from this. She always looks lovely but that would bore me to tears. I like to make my wardrobe earn it's keep, and serve me well. Please feel free to ask me anything, i'm glad i can help.

I am not quite at Sharron's level yet, but I think I am heading that way. I started by deciding to step off the treadmill of new holiday clothes first. My mantra became that no one on holday knew me and there fore had no idea and really didn't care if stuff was new or had been worn more than once on that holiday. That really reduced summer clothes spending. Then this year, along with returning to being more OS in other areas I decided to stop buying clothes and wear what I have.
I started by trying everything on, god that's a depressing day.
Once everything fits I found that really really helps. I have also become strict about getting rid of anything I really dont wear. I still have far too many clothes, but so far this season I have only bought 1 pair of shoes as there really isnt a clothing need I dont already have something I like already to fulfil.
Yes, I still love shoes, handbags, new things, but I really really dont need anything else.Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0 -
Sharron - do you buy 'good' clothes for your capsule - ie not the cheap and nasty clothes which fall apart? I'm thinking I need to organise myself a capsule, but as it will take a long time to build it up (due to severe lack of funds) if I buy cheap it will fall apart before I can add to it. What makes do you buy?0
