Making A Living From E-Bay- Can It Be Done?
rocketscience_2
I've given idle thought to making a living on e-bay recently and researched the idea slightly through various websites most of which seem intent on selling me some kind of book "packed with great tips to make a fortune in no time" or something along those lines.
Are these books any good? Or do they all state the bleedin' obvious as I'd suspect?
I'd guess any power sellers reading this wouldn't want to reveal thier sources but any relevant information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

It is possible to make a living on Ebay, if you read the ebay newsgroups like uk.people.consumers.ebay there are a few full time sellers. However, they are using ebay as an extension of an existing business, or else they have a very precise niche market with little competion.
Check some of the other threads on this particular forum as this has been discussed on here recently (sorry I don't know how to do a direct link but i'm sure someone will help later).
Basically though if you already have a business selling something unique then you might be able to tag on an e bay side. However, if you are planning to start from scratch then you will have to be very very lucky to find a good selling product with an endless market.

Sorry, I didn't fully answer your question, I'm not quite awake yet!
The get rich quick kind of books do not tend to be useful at all. The most famous one that does the rounds in different guises basically tells you how you need to buy something cheap (it suggests old books) and sell them at a huge mark up. Not exactly rocket science and if, like me, you know nothing about antique books pretty difficult to do.

Hi david
To make this kind of profit from ebay, how many hours did you need to put in? I guess it varies from week to week, but I just wanted to know if this was being done on top of a normal 9 to 5 job.0 -
yes its easy, basically the best way to list to gain max views is from sunday night to sunday night ie 7 days. This way also you can get alot of packing done at the weekends as well as visiting wholesalers. Aslong as you make time on the monday and a lil less time on other days to visit the PO then its managable......if however your poss is a nob it may be a lil harder

If you would like to learn how to sell on eBay, I recommend The Auction Seller's Resource where you can find professional training information and tons of free resources for auction sellers.
Another resource is The Silent Sales Machine on Ebay.
You CAN make a living on eBay...but it IS work.
Good Luck!0 -
I'm not sure you are supposed to be advertising a book on here. Also, although you are targetting 'professional' ebay sellers they all seem less than complimentary about such books if they get mentioned over at the ebay newsgroups.

Totally agree here. I'm here to be a money 'saving' expert and not have to fork out for an e-book that may or may not be helpfull. It's the threads on these very boards that are giving me the up to date tips for ebay buying and selling.
There must some free ebay guides out there. If you've made a fortune selling on ebay, why not share that knowledge freely, rather than trying to make even more for a few tips that are mostly common sense anyway.0 -
its not an ebook!
The book cost me £4 on amazon i turned it into £30k somehow i see that as a good investment.
People are not always willing to give this info away for free becasue if they did everyone would copy them and then the market would be saturated and they would put themselves out of business due to giving away their knowledge for free!0
