Making A Living From E-Bay- Can It Be Done?

  • Yes it can be done, if you have the money available to invest and are prepared to work extremely hard. It certainly isn't going to come as easily as you claim.
To be honest I think good money CAN come easily from ebay. About a year ago I found a good wholesale deal on Netgear routers. High street price £90, I got them at £52 and sold for £70 on ebay. After that market was saturated so I keep looking for other deals.

My work was literally, write a good description, ordered 5 at wholesale price on credit card, list the item, wait to sell. Once sold I put them in the post and used the money to buy more. After a month I'd sold dozens and made about £500 profit as well as a cash throughput of nearer £2000 which was effectively a 0% balance transfer (since I bought items on 0% card and got cash into bank through selling). It took me less than 1 hour per day... seems easy to me.

The hardest part was walking the 1/2 mile to the post office. I mean what is hard about ordering something from 1 website then posting it to someone a few days later?

I applaud davidmoore for his work and after all he was only offering support to the OP that a living CAN be made from ebay and offering a token example of how much. I think it's particularly picky and pointless for other posters to get out calculators and start complaining about someone is or is not able to achieve. Basic entrepeneur actions like this are how people like Richard Branson got started, I suspect lots of people at HMV/British Airways etc wish they'd just got on and copied him rather than getting out their calculators...

I respect your point of view but I still retain my view that it isn't easy. It's a great deal of hard work.

This post makes me very sad. I have never read a thread on these forums where people are so harsh with one-another, I actually felt uncomfortable reading it, so I think that perhaps some of the posters on here need to be a bit kinder with their remarks as alot of these comments are against the spirit of MSE.

Living near Dover, I've always thought that there must be some commodities that are cheaper in France that I could then re-sell

    Taps
    Tiles

Was on one of the many house diy programs and they went over to France to buy them, i think they were about half the price than in the UK.

I'm sure there are more things cheaper too.

Good luck if you decide to do it.

That's not a bad idea at all. Like -1- says fittings seem to be a good idea if the house improvement programmes are to be believed.

Try going over on a cheap day pass, getting some brochures and prices and do some research on ebay..you may well have found a niche market. Watch sizes though as I vaguely (very vaguely) recall that in plumbing items the bore size (is that right???) can be different.

    Good luck!
