Happy new year SH. I think I’m leaning more towards the hygge (sp) type of house. Trouble is one ok the DS’ bought me ‘things’ that wouldn’t normally stay IYKWIM. I look round this house and think is that going to come north with me?

You've made a great start with the decluttering, and well done on getting the additional weight off already.
The book sounds interesting, I might have a look. I don't think I'd like open shelves, it's too much 'noise' for me. It would be interesting to see what it recommends."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Happy new year SH.Interesting to think about there being types of storage that suit different personality types. I'm definitely with JWIL on the preference for closed storage. I suppose the key is to only have things we still need and then to store them logically and consistently. I always know where my toothbrush and toothpaste is so why do I chose to put lip balm in a variety of different places, can't find it so buy another one and repeat again. Not that they need storage but I also spend an inordinate amount of time walking around looking for my slippers 🤷♀️7

I'm not an 'open shelf' person either. Too much dusting, but I do like having a 'place' for things - trouble is I can't always find that place. Its better since I've decluttered lots, but still have work to do. I think it was Marie Kondo who says that if you keep lots of little things you'll probably never find them when you need them, so you'll still go out and buy another. That's me, so I'm getting better at what I do keep.

Waves at all my visitors. Yeah - there are lots of organising styles... Too much stuff in my house is the biggest problem still I think.
I made one corner of the lounge look like I want the rest is still to do!! There was a reason she called people like me perfectionists. Some family wanted to come tomorrow - but I looked around the wreckage of downstairs without my cleaner and was like no I need a lot more warning than that!! Hopefully tomorrow will be better for decluttering.
I just chilled really today. Didn't even do art. Just a mix of listening to books - tiny bit of displacing items and trying them in different locations but not really fixing the underlying issue. I did fill the holes in the wall from where DS removed the swivel arm for the TV...
I am picking up a 1930s style brass magazine rack tomorrow for a fiver from FB - with two slots for filing - one for new and the second for ready to file. I am hoping that might help with the paper clutter...
I need to shift my focus and do the bigger stuff like turn my kitchen back into a kitchen instead of a pseudo art studio... The plastic sheeting on the table and half the floor is not the look I need when family come in 2 days time... My paint stuff luckily is stored in plastic drawers - so I need to stick the drawers back in the unit and then that will look instantly better. My paintings are dry but I need to decide how and where to store them. So much to do! The washing and drying got done - still need to make my bed though - and be returned upstairs.
I will try and do some more sorting before bed.

I was chuckling at the 'storage styles' discussion - I have a couple of friends at work who (along with me) have VERY certain opinions on cutlery draw standards! My Mum and I are complete opposites - her drawers and cupboards are (to my eyes) a completely chaotic nightmare, I organise the cuttlery every time I visit (it's been two and a half years because of covid, so I will have a job and a half
). But, everything that is on show has it's place and she has not one ounce of clutter in view! Me . . . I'm terrible at putting things away, BUT, if you open my cupboards and drawers, they are uber-organised and neat - Mum's retaliation for drawer organising is to put just one thing in a random cupboard before she leaves

You've started a really interesting discussion saving. I think this is probably why DH and I argue so much - I need to look into this some more. I like everything to have a place, but I'm not worried about putting it back in that place everytime. But if we have visitors I know that in an hour I can put everything in its place, dust and hoover and we're good to go for visitors. Whereas DH just likes things not be on show - it drives him mad if someone puts their coat on the bannister. But he has a pile of stuff permanently on the kitchen worktop e.g. phones, papers etc. which annoys me to death as it doesn't have a place to go, its just there (can't have a coat on a bannister but you can have a pile of change, paperwork, phones and chargers etc on display in my lovely kitchen?). I've tried buying him boxes before but it just becomes a bigger pile of carp."Think of many things, do one"

Thanks @jwil @Chiglepig and @SandyShores
Well C19 has come to call after DD's night out and sleepover. We're triple jabbed but I'm still worried. Will get a PCR for both of us tomorrow - none available today. The only thing in my favour is she came back exhausted and we spent very little time together yesterday. I was in close proximity in the car though and that was probably enough...
Our house needed everywhere cleaning before - even more now. I have disinfectant sprays - but there's no point even bothering until I declutter and put stuff away. Will have to do the regular hand washing thing in the meantime. So far she is just eating ice cream. At least we have some. I suppose I should see what else she wants to eat. Gutted.
