Have a lovely time with DS today
It's good to step away from SW if you are not on plan and can't see yourself getting back on plan any time soon. I also have automatic reactions to certain situations - e.g. eating when stressed or trying to concentrate. Well done on eating the fruit more than the chocolate! I find it overwhelming to try and make big changes, so making those tiny changes and creating new habits is really working for me. It does mean I don't see quick results, but hopefully eventually the little things will add up. It's much more sustainable for me."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee5 -
In fairness a lot of people seem to eat during even quite important meetings these days so I wouldn't necessarily expect your colleague to have read anything more than "you were hungry" into your eating during the conversation. Glad you have the chocolate and the fruit there as a method of helping to deal with the stress though - if the colleague commented on your appearing calm it must have been effective, too!
Hope you have a lovely day with DS today. Also hope that DD learns sooner rather than later that putting some clothes on means you stay warmer!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Had a really lovely day. Meal was fab too. Came back towards home and DS wanted to nip to shops here as cheaper than London. He ended up buying himself a jacket and sweatshirt from TK - and I ended up buying an M Kors petrol blue coat... I had a green one in the past (also TK) but it no longer fits me by quite a way - this fits me even wearing a hoodie underneath it. So that was a significant unplanned spend at c£90 but it is lovely.... Picked up desert on the way back as DS had been craving a lemon meringue mini pie from Mr M.
Good job it's pay day Friday! I was saying to DS it's hard to get the balance between how much to spend in the present and what to save for future self.
EH - I wasn't commenting on the other person wrongly thinking I was calm - I can be ultra calm in very stressful situations - I was reflecting.
Thanks Jwil and Skint Spice. Feel like we forest bathed today as well as having the opportunity to walk among monkeys.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Glad you had a good day with DS.
I don't really have anything to add re changing habits, except that awareness of why you do a thing is at least a step in the right direction - and a step that most people never take. I think you're definitely to be applauded for that.Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056

I have similar issues that I am addressing. What has helped me gain an understanding is the idea of projects and areas (taken from the PARA method). So losing weight would be a project because it is action based with a deadline. But keeping fit and healthy is an area which is something that doesn't have an end date but is an ongoing part of your life. So you fail at weight loss because of you only have a plan to get the weight off but nothing to maintain it as a sustainable part of life.
Edited to give actual definition of area- a sphere of responsibility with a standard to be maintained over time.5
